I understand the beer part... but they lost me at running.

Last time I did that was almost ten years ago and we used Keystone. Not sure what I would use today. Maybe CCB Maduro or OB Dales Pale.

I agree with you. My exposure to beer miles was in college and there are a lot of stupid things I did then that seemed like fun then that I look back at and just shake my head. 90% of those included alcohol of course.

These new iron man events are way more humane! My choice would be Spaten Lager.

Use the link below to check out this video where Lewis Kent set the world record for the beer mile. Just nuts.

ESPN had an article about him setting the record and going on to the beer mile world championships. I don't know what would be more painful, the run or having to down Bud Light Platinum. Would really need to do some research on the right beer before trying something like this. Good luck to anyone that tries this.

Per the official rules that would be cheating.

    Cheers

Had no idea this was an actual thing. Like that hotel commercial where they feature the world champion marathon juggler..... Guess I need to watch "The Ocho" more often.

If I were to run this event (I don't run, so this is purely an exercise in theorization) I'd look towards Grunion.

I'll file this one away as a spectator sport. I can't let running get in the way of my drinking. Maybe I can work out a "tag team" with a tea totaller. They run, and I drink. I'd be in for that. Hell, I'd probably be pretty competitive!

Best of luck to anyone who is really doing it. I hope you have a good time!

The tradition at my daughter's University was called ring dunk, and you have to drop your ring in a pitcher of beer/cider and chug the whole thing to get your ring out. She spent 4 months drinking various beers/ciders to find the one she could stomach (wasn't a beer drinker back then). She ended up choosing WoodChuck and filled up the pitcher early that morning and would go jig it every hour to get the carbonation out of it.

Now that I think of it the PERFECT beer for this is Not Your Fathers Root Beer. You can chug it just like regular root beer.

Hitachino Nest White would be my beer of choice. 5.5% with a small citrus bite, I could put A LOT of these down.

I've done one beer mile and went with Avery's White Rascal. (A Witbier). Bad choice. I imagine that I probably could have completed it in half the time if I chose the right beer.

If/when I ever do another one, it will be with Bud Light Platinum. Over 5%, goes down and tastes like water. No point in getting something tasty for an event like this, you're just chugging it anyway.

I'm focusing more on doing a beerathon: Drinking a 6-pack over the course of a marathon. Drink one at the gun and one at each 5 mile marker. Not sure it's ever been done, but something to aim for.

My cousin attempted to do his with Rochefort 10. Sadly, he's no longer with us.
