Pottsville, PA, October 26, 2015 - D.G. Yuengling & Son, Inc.'s newest seasonal brand,Yuengling® IPL (India Pale Lager), will be hitting the bottling line and start shipping out thisWednesday, October 28th.
Yuengling® IPL is a well-balanced lager with an unexpected mix of hops. This is not just a hopped up lager, but a truly unique brew with a crisp, clean character, bursting with complex hop notes. “With its hop-forward style, Yuengling® IPL is redefining the limits of what a lager can be,” said Jennifer Yuengling.

The decision to brew an IPL was based on the popularity of the IPA (India Pale Ale) style and the success of Yuengling’s flagship offerings, Traditional Lager. Yuengling® IPL is the perfect combination of what consumers desire and what the brewery does best.

"IPL is 60 IBUs which is double that of Lord Chesterfield Ale," states John Callahan, PA Brewing Manager. "We also took a lot of time trying over 12 different hop varieties prior to selecting Belma, Bravo, Cascade and Citra hops for this new brew."

This new IPL will be rounding out our calendar of seasonal offerings with its release scheduled after annual favorite Yuengling® Oktoberfest and Yuengling® Summer Wheat, now in its second year.

Yuengling® IPL will be available in six pack cases, 12 packs, ¼ and ½ Barrels.

Every Yuengling attempt at making an admirable beer has failed terribly.

Tried a sample of this at their tour in Pottsville a little while ago. Wasn't bad. Not mind blowing, but certainly not disappointing either! Definitely more satisfying than that comment anyway, haha.

I think they touted the use of bravo hops in this.

I don't know. I live 20 miles from the brewery so believe me, keg parties in High School were based on Yuengling. I'm just pooped out on it. Sorry for the negativity.

Will definitely try this one. As curious as I have been about a new beer in a long time.

Bravo is indeed the bittering hop. Video in OP also mentions Belma, Citra, and Cascade.

What would be your general description? Like a hoppy pilsner?

That's what I was thinking - maybe this would come across like a hopped up Czech Pils.

Either way, it looks intriguing enough that I'll certainly try it. I'm a fan of hopped up lagers, so this may be just great for me.

Perhaps @therealJAYZ can chime in, as the only one to have rated the beer so far?

I grew up on lager. Hate it for the last 10 years. Summer wheat was pretty good for $24. Drank a few cases the last two years. Not excited about this one though. Will try a single. Pretty sure it will be priced as a micro at bars though

    Enjoy

This reminds me that I need some Jack Abby in my life once again. I love these press releases. The IBUs is nothing special. The style has been done before. I guess they have to hype up them being late to the party some how.

Does this make them the first "macro" brewer to release a hoppy "IPx" under their actual name? Besides maybe Sam Adams, there hasn't been like a Bud IPA or Coors IPL or anything right?

Yuengling is "craft" according to the Brewers Association, and by the criteria of that definition also "small" (under 6 million barrels a year) - so not "macro".

    P. Ballantine & Sons, among the largest brewers in the US from the late 19th century into the 1960s (as high as #3, larger than AB, in the late 1940s) had an India Pale Ale in their portfolio for all of that period.
