That's why I refer to the beer I drink as "Good Beer"... Bud Light and Blue Moon can't make that claim :grinning:

A dismissal of a lawsuit is not a ruling, de facto or otherwise. It's a ruling that there wasn't enough evidence or a sufficient enough cause of action to go forward. As much as many of you dislike lawyers, there is a limit set by courts as to what can be litigated, even by the shysters.

But now it looks like a good time to bring back 'micro brew'.

I know what good beer is. We all know what good beer is... I hope. Isn't that all that really matters? Labels and marketing terms come and go. At the end of the day good beer is good beer, and bad beer is bad beer. No label or term is going to change that. Something about putting lipstick on a pig...

If there is is no definition of craft beer, then any beer cannot be defined as such. So, Bud, Miller, etc are not craft...b/c there is not legal definition.

Don't think there ever was a legal definition of craft beer, nor a labelling law to enforce it. I guess they were making a false advertising claim in the lawsuit which perhaps has a point, but is pretty frivolous to prove damages the way it was brought to the table. Still funny though!

True, and I forgot to point out in my other lengthy post that the dismissal was "without prejudice," which means the plaintiff gets to try again if he wants. The court expressly stated that there might be some facts that would support the plaintiff's claim--just not the facts as alleged in the current complaint.

I'm unfamiliar with this publication - is 'Daily Beast' another name for 'The Onion'?

I believe that craft beer is a stupid concept and should be phased out. It protects mediocre small brewers and stigmatizes large ones.

Most of my favourites are made by large(ish) breweries anyway.

People seem to forget that we drink for pleasure and this involves taste and preference. What we call "good beer" is one which ticks our personal boxes. But as the saying goes, one man's meat is another man's poison.
So is "Blue Moon" good beer ? Yes, though certainly not what I wouild choose to drink , but it has been competently brewed in a state of the art brewery.Millions of people do enjoy it though and who are we to say they are all wrong?

I have long come to the conclusion that "craft" beer, if it ever meant anything, is simply an empty and meaningless adjective.Beer can't brew itself after all.All but the tiniest of breweries involve automation.

Thank you for verifying that this, as they say "puffery", doesn't actually matter and that it was also a huge waste of time, effort and money.
Now, can we get on with the business of killing that stupid term, craft once and for all.
It's also high puffery and has lost all meaning.

I vote to replace "craft beer" with the term "fine beer". Of course, this won't have any of the economic meaning it was meant to have by the Brewer's Association, but that is a good thing IMHO.

It was around 2 million in 2013. I have no idea where The Daily Beast pulled 70 million from.
