I'll be in LA (Manhattan/Redondo/Torrance, specifically) for the weekend of 11/6. We are thinking of driving down to Beachwood and then Monkish on Friday and hitting the Alosta second anniversary party on Saturday before we head up to Simi Valley. Any recommendations on a good beer store in the Manhattan Beach area with a good selection of local beers? We would love to bring some beer back with us. What we should pick up (non IPAs)?

It doesn't have to be local beer - maybe just something I cannot get back in Texas.

I'll check those out! Anything in particular that I should keep an eye out for, special release or otherwise?

that's cool you'e going to Monkish. would be a shame not to go to Smog City though. in fact, Smog City should be your first choice in Torrance.

they're 1/2 mile away from each other by the way

I actually went to Smog City the last time I was there and I was less than impressed. It came highly recommended and I just didn't prefer anything I had there. Monkish on the other hand, I loved.

Smog city is whatever unless they have something special on. Monkish has some interesting beers. The real winner here is phantom carriage though. Go to them. Rad place, great sours and people.

I agree. Monkish to me is the lesser of the two down the block from each other. I don't even acknowledge Dudes.
But Phantom... now that place is worth going to.

I do really love some of Monkish's new releases of late, though. Black Kisses was pretty awesome, and Cart Fetish actually turned out REALLY well, IMO.

Agreed! Cart Fetish is really good as is Haiku. I had Monkish once before awhile back was was rather disappointed, lately they have been really stepping up their game.

Thanks for all the tips! We might hit Beachwood, then Phantom Carriage and then Monkish. Do you guys have any special releases or great beers that I should keep an eye out for to pick up at a local beer store?

Not a beer store, but Mediterraneo on the Hermosa Pier has as great draft and bottle list and excellent tapas. Love that place, they usually have Pliny or Blind Pig on tap as well as bottles of RR sours.

Next week there is a release of a Trillium collab, I think GD might be released too. There is going to be an epic line for this one. They have pretty much been releasing cans every two weeks.

Ah yes, the collab. Forgot about that one. This will be epic. Wish I could fly out for that one if OH has an event. But going to Citra release. Another epic event.
