If you like hops but get burned out after a few IPAs, try a hoppy Pilsner. Victory Prima Pils and Firestone Walker Pivo Pils are excellent choices and are sessionable.

These days the only thing I session is ice water. When I want to drink something with some flavor, I have a beer.

It's hard to beat 64oz of Rolling Rock for $2.88, so that's my sessioning go-to.

It'd come down to who bought it. If it's being offered, it'll probably be AALs, which I'll be happy to drink (free beer, yo). If I was buying, it'd be a "lighter" hops. Think 60min or Moon Man.

What do I prefer "sessioning"... AALs or IPAs?
Are we at the crossroads of the monolithic US macro culture and monolithic US craft culture?

I don't generally have more than one, or maybe two, beers per sitting. But if I'm going to drink 2 or 3 in a row, particularly if the first one or two are drunk alongside food, and those two styles are my only options... I'd probably go with AALs, to be honest. Especially if one that I already know I like is available so I'm not risking getting a big ol' glass of something that's kinda gross.

I like an IPA every now and then, but I rarely ever feel like having multiple IPAs in a row (even "session" IPAs)... actually I think it's only happened once, me drinking an IPA and then going "hey, I think I'll go ahead and have another one of those right now." On the other hand, AALs are basically made for the "have two or three beers with a meal" situation.

Though it'd be nice to expand that out to the "pale lager" category as a whole (AAL, American pale lager, Euro pale lager), rather than just the ones made with corn/rice/whatever. I mean, shouldn't an adjunct lager just be a "lighter" pale lager (...with the "lite" lagers being the absurd diet-food extreme, lightened versions of the lightened versions of an already pretty light style of beer)? The main purpose of adding corn/rice in brewing is pretty much just to make the beer lighter and clearer, right?

Neither, I don't like AALs and American hops don't get better over a session IMO.

I could sessions IPAs. AALs are terrible, though. Honestly, the best beers I could session are pilsners. I drank four or five SN Nooner's in a row once. It was excellent.

I happen to like the onion flavor, knowing that there is no actual onion in the beer. It's all for education.

I like to dabble in organic chemistry, FYI

I mix it up. Three for three is my usual trade off when session drinking any type of beers.

For example if I'm drinking three 10% stouts and want to slow my roll I'll have a few pabst before moving on to another beer.

Don't really drink the typical party beers anymore. Used to put it away though. Good beer...I like to go back and forth between single IPA's and porters. Maybe a wheat or Pils thrown in for a change.

You don't mention whether the 3-4 IPAs are the same one, but certainly a growler is all one IPA. I'd mix up the IPAs from different breweries to help prevent palate fatigue of the same hop flavors.

AAL's are perfect for soaking brats prior to grilling while I am enjoying many IPAs.

The American adjunct lagers that I'd session more than 3-4 of are few and far between, but @JacksAbbyBrewing pumps out some of the very best of them, including Leisure Time. Can't wait for the six-packs of pint cans!

Dude, it isn't all about IPA's. Try an ESB or Scottish Ale. Try a nice cream ale. One of my go to's is Left Hand Sawtooth Ale. Awesome and not to strong or heavy. I can't figure out whats with the current IPA obsession. Yes IPA's are fantastic but there are soooooooo many other beers out there as well.

I actually like drinking or sharing a full six pack of whatever pale ale or IPA that I am drinking for the night. For example, tonight the GF is having a bottle of wine and I am going to put down a sixer of Green Flash West Coast IPA. I am on number three over about two hours and it is almost time to eat and then a scary movie and the other three. It still tastes great, I just slowly sip it. It makes me happy.

I agree with op. Im on my 5th Lagunitas pale ale and its like scallions. Hes not saying adjuncts are better than ipas. We all know how that conversation will end on here. Hes saying the consistency of ipas drops. Thats all. For me both ipas and aals wear me out. Ipas get me wasted. Aals make ne nauseous its all got its ups and downs. if im going for almost double digit beers in a night, ill go for yuengling light or something like that.

I figured out a steady pace so i can have a massive buzz and continue drinking and not get anymore drunk. Its awesome. But aals do get me queasy i think its cuz its more sugary. I like it bitter and dry and that helps me drink more. A even mildy sweet beer and i cant do it. Vital IPA and New Dogtown Pale Ale have been rock solid for my big drinking sessions without make me wasted.
