    Reviews:

This was surprisingly good. Aromas and flavors of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, light coffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, and light herbal hops. Light herbal/roasted bitterness; with a balanced bittersweet finish with some good malt complexity. Very weak aromas; seemed well balanced but also a bit fruity. Taste was really clean with no off flavors/fruits; and had nice robustness for the 4.7% ABV. Medium carb/light-medium bodied; had a fair amount of bready creaminess and light roasted malt sticky/chalky notes in the mouthfeel. Other than the lacking aromas, the flavors were enjoyable and balanced. Very tasty. Weirdly enough, I have only had the porter and lager before; and this is the mix of the two lol. This was also much cleaner, balanced, and robust than both of them; which I find odd.

Awesome! Aromas and flavors of big grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pineapple, peach, pear, apple, white grape, pepper, wheat, cracker, hay, straw, grass, and light funk; with herbal/floral hop and yeasty earthiness. Good sized floral/piney bitterness; with a very crisp/dry finish with lingering sticky citrus/tropical hop oils and peppery yeast spice on the finish. Very well carbonated with a light body. Low malt sweetness overall, but still noticeable wheaty character. Just all around excellent, great balance between hops and brett complexity; with very crisp and dry west coast style IPA character.

Sour Quad aged in Hungarian Oak barrels. Nice easy wax removal. This was all around excellent! Aromas and flavors of huge raisin, plum, tart cherry, cranberry, fig, apple, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, toasted oak, leather, funk, light red wine vinegar, and spice. Balanced sweet/tart/spice finish; with all around well round and balanced complexity; and very smooth sipping for 11.5%. Nicely balanced tannic/acidic mouthfeel with sweetness. No complaints at all about this one. Has a lot of classic "pale" quad complexities which I prefer; with a nice presence of vanilla/toffee oak character with a pleasant and not overwhelming funky/sour aspect. Delicious!

    look: 4 | smell: 3.25 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Look : A very dark toffee looking body, mostly chocolate brown but caramel colored strikes through it when held up to the light. The head is 2 fingers and khaki colored, leaving sparse lacing behind as it recedes slowly.

Smell : Mostly burnt alcohol with peanut hulls, burnt to black cookie dough, and blackened malts. Very burnt smelling, with some slight cloying sweetness behind it.

Taste : First impression is that while nothing is remarkable - whatever IS there comes together well. Mostly caramel malts, caramel syrup, and burnt malts, but old brownie batter and nut hulls chill in the distance. A little more chocolate comes out as well as the glass disappears.

Feel : Medium bodied, well-lit carbonation, and zero creaminess.

Overall : It has the feel and roots of a chocolate-infused Schwarzbier or Zwickelbier. The chocolate is reminiscent of a light stout, while the feel and burnt malts remind me of a German dark ale. It's not bad, not fabulous, but a little better than okay. I'd have it again.

Just having a good ol' Coors Light tonight. No, it's not particularly flavourful, but I do enjoy a simple "cold one" once in awhile.

So no beer yesterday, which is also known as crap sundae day. Got to work and found out I had a 2 day deadline on a project I thought I had till the end of the week. Also the end of the week is the end of the 6 weeks so ALL my grades have to be in. And one of my co-workers did not do the lesson plans like she should have meaning I had to do them. Finally got home to discover my cat Hamish got out at some point and we can not find him ( 2 days now). So no drinking for me yesterday as I would have been drinking for the wrong reason.

Today was a bit better at work. Still no Hamish. But my sis and bro in-law came into town so we went to eat with them. Went to the Gas Monkey Bar and Grill.

    I had a Lakewood Temptress....

Not pictured is the 512 Pecan Porter that my sis in-law did not finish ( she drank about a tenth of it) that I finished off for her ( can't let a decent beer go to waste now can I?)
