I am that weird guy that peppers the liquor store with "Do you know if we'll be getting X in?" and "Any chance X brewery will be hitting our distro?".

I obsessively review beers. If I only have one beer to drink, I can't drink it unless I know I'm able to sit down and write a proper review. If I have a sixer, the first beer gets a proper review, then the remaining 5 I can enjoy in peace without scrutinizing.

I sometimes open my fridge wanting a beer, but then talk myself out of it because all the beers are high ABV behemoths.

I only want to travel to places where I'm sure there will be good beer.

Not sure it s weird, per we, but I keep setting back individual bottles from the cases I buy to give to Kif Haynes, but I never end up crossing paths with him.
If he doesn't come get them I'll eventually wind up drinking them.

Maybe then I can do some beer judging.

    Samesies.

Samesies. Not sure if you do it, but I like to refer to my non-cellar as "my cellar" when discussing what's in there with people.

    Samesies.

    Samesies.

Is it really weird if we're all doing it?

@ONovoMexicano Only way I was able to actually cellar anything without drinking it a day later is when I quit advocating for a few years and forgot I put beers down there .

I don't see how people can torture themselves with knowing all those great beers are downstairs without drinking them.

The trick is too buy multiples on top of buying everything at every opportunity, you eventually have way too much beer to drink, which makes cellaring easy. I am currently in the process of doing the opposite: buying less and drinking down everything I have stashed. Liver isn't a fan of me right now.

Just got into craft beers at age 57, after a life of mostly not drinking more than a beer every month or two, and it was the usual mass-produced drivel. I drink more than before, but still buy more than I drink. Also am the guy that can go into the liquor stores and look for 20 minutes and leave empty handed.

If it's a really good beer, l'll buy two. I pour one into a glass, the other into my lap.

I look up every purchase on BA. I also collect beer caps and I have bought beer just because the cap looks cool

I actually have had beer dreams, which, to me, is pretty weird. Like finding some whalez or snaggin' the last bottle of a limited release from Trillium.

I collect bottle caps from the beers I drink. Not every bottle cap of every beer, but just try to get 1 from each brewery, or if the brewery has multiple bottle caps, one of each. For instance, Firestone Walker has a default bottlecap and one for their Pivo Pils, so I have 1 of each. So its just unique bottle caps. Have generations as they change over the years too, which is interesting.

My intention is to make a table out of them. Like find some way to nail them into the table top, then cover in some sort of clear acryllic covering, but for now its just been collection phase, have bags of them. Will be an epic table though.

Ok good, glad to know I am not the only one doing this. I check them out even if I KNOW I am not buying any.

Two sip rule? I've always lived my life by the three times rule, same goes for food.

More things mind come to mind if I think of them later, but yeah, sniffing my beer. I spend as much time smelling my beer as I do drinking it. It's so true that humans get more out of smell than we do out of taste.

Weird thing I do with beer is take pictures of beer, post them on a beer website, and look at what others are drinking. As my wife has told me more than once, "you take more pictures of your beers than your kids!"

But I go lowest ABV to highest when I drink. I like to start with the toe in the water stuff, and end with the dick in the dirt stuff.

C'mon man we all do this, right? I mean it's BA.

The weirdest thing in this thread so far is the guy who performs oral on his whalez. Methinks I smell a joker.

For me it's probably been the near complete elimination of a "cellar"...At one point I had a respectable (75 or so bottles) cellar (a real cellar) of pretty rare stuff, then I moved, and drank a bunch of it before the move. A year later moved again and with the modest wine collection and bar bottles it was just so many boxes. Having a wife that enjoys beer as much as I do helped/helps to cut down. Now we usually have a handful of beers in the fridge and 10-20 beers stashed and when we drink them I buy more. Still in an apartment - I think once we have a house I will likely go a little nuts and start hoarding again. There's nothing like having a deep and varied cellar to pull from.

Totally forgot about the two cases of HF saisons sitting in a closet from my last trip though. If I make the 6 hour drive you better believe we're maxing out.

It occurs to me that perhaps the weirdest thing I do, and I don't think I'm alone here, is to seek out solitary moments to enjoy beer. Although I'm a sociable person and happily married to a beer loving woman, my favorite way to drink is to have a few choice bottles to myself on a quiet evening when I'm away, either on business in a hotel, or in my family's country home in the mountains. Drink and savor and review in a leisurely and uninterrupted way that's just not possible when in the presence of others. I suspect BAs will get that but many people would be highly suspect of drinking alone and writing about it. Always enjoyed my alone time and drinking great beer definitely doesn't detract from that.
