It seems I look at the trading forum and you can always tell hen a new batch of Heady came out because you see thread after thread of " FT: Fresh Heady, ISO: Whale, then some one either actually trades ??? or comes in and is like " hold up a minute there" It just seems like everyone that gets it thinks its gold or something. It happens with other stuff too, Pliny. Yeah this is semi rare and can be hard to get but for all intents and purposes they are off the shelf beers. They just have very limited distros that make them rarer then they actually are. I'm sure I'm severely oversimplifying this, but you get what I mean.

I'm interested in trying it I think, but solely to compare it to what I have available here, but also I dont have or don't want to put up super rare stuff to get my hands on some either. I have plenty of stuff that doesn't leave this state, but its off the self but it wouldn't be enough I don't think. Its that catch 22 with trading and a really good reason I'm trying to go as local as I can and try to ignore the beers a cant get. Thee are a still a few out there though I wouldn't mind a taste of.

any of you notice things like that in the trade forum? I'm sure we've all seen it.

You're asking a million things in your OP and it has no direction... I'm not sure what you're trying to get at.

But to answer the question in your title, yes. I have gotten HT for $4$ multiple times and I know of others that've gotten it $4$ multiple times also. It just takes a little patience. The same goes for Pliny. Your best bet is to search out an older/more established trader in CA, VT and chances are, they'll trade it to you at a fair "price".

I feel like I almost always see Pliny and Heady trading $for$ and the few that don't are completely absurd.

HT trades $4$ with Pliny, Zombie Dust, Headhunter, etc. all the time. People who have regular trading partners don't have to worry about those silly FT offers.

I tend to think mot hard to get beers eventually trade $4$. They might be trading for something harder to get but cost wise it is usually equaled out with locals or something. Not that everyone should ask for whales for every semi hard to get beer they land it is nice to see quality trade for quality sometimes.

I've done Cigar City $4$ for Heady and I assume I could do it again easily

A new batch of Heady comes out twice a week and despite what you hear, isn't difficult to get at the brewery. I've gone to Vermont twice this summer and left with a case each time.

It is delicious, but mostly you have a situation where demand outstrips supply amongst traders. When a trader has seen people begging for the stuff and finally gets their hands on some they do their best to pull good things with it.

Does Heady trade for rare beers? Of course. I had my first Heady when I traded away a bottle of LeBleu for it. I was desperate to try it though and knew that would get the job done. That being said, plenty of people trade $4$ - especially for other limited distro shelf beers. I most recently traded Heady for New Glarus. It also seems to be one of the most frequently extra'd beers on this site. Take a look though some BIF threads, seems like Heady shows up in 25%+ of those boxes.

If you posted up a fair ISO with desirable Michigan locals, I'm sure you could get the job done.

I only traded a 4 pack as I wanted to drink it all myself last time I got it but I traded it $4$.

HT almost always trades $4$, and there are new batches coming out every week, so I don't really know where you are going with your post.

Heady trades $4$ with other desirable locals. You mention that you see ISO: FT for whales which does happen but I also see people expecting to get heady with easy to get "locals" that arnt that desirable. Locals like Zombie Dust, Pliny or wide distribution limited resleases like KBS and Parabola should have no problem getting it done.

Sorry, yeah I think I got to rambling a bit

I guess recently I've seen a few thread here and there of people asking for whales for Heady.

True I'm sure having a regular trading partner would make a lot of things easier. I think I've been reluctant to really get into trading because every time I seem to try it just seems like it can get expensive quick. I also don't have a cellar and I don't usually have a lot of extra beer, just what Im currently drinking, in the fridge to extra.

OP, can you point out some of these "FT: Heady ISO: wales" threads, or even link them here? I don't recall seeing that many

...or I just IGNORE them like, I would assume, a lot of others do.

Correction: You can tell a new batch of heady came out because it's either a Monday or a Thursday

You can tell there was recently a BUNCH of traders who vacationed to VT by the ft threads

    Also, heady goes $4$ regularly

Lately it's been a little tougher. A friend of mine was just in Vermont this past week and couldn't find a couple 4 packs anywhere to bring back for me, including the cannery. They seem to be selling out a lot lately for some reason. A new batch is always released Monday it seems and is gone by Friday. Not sure what that's about but hopefully it stops since I'll be there on a Friday next month!

They release on Monday and Thursday at the cannery. This past weekend probably had a much higher demand due to the festival of farmhouse ales up at hill farmstead. I've gone on Friday mornings both times and they've had more than enough Heady for anyone who wanted it.

I've actually gotten free cans of HT sent to me. There's some super groovy VT BAs out there.

My advice- stop worrying about rarity and focus on taste. Trade some super bangin' tasty beers. HT is world-class- offer up some world-class tasty beers in return, instead of artificially limited super pricey $25 barrel aged bullshit in a bottle.

Not directing that at you, but to anyone who is having trouble with the whole 'rarity' thing.

If a trade goes down between two happy parties and no BA is around to read about it on a message board, does it really happen?

They sold out of thursdays canning on friday this week. The summer has been crazy, but it's a busy time of year up here. The festival this past weekend definitely helped deplete the supply of heady (as well as making waterbury SUPER busy on Friday, so thanks guys :grinning: ). Pretty much if getting Heady is imperative, make sure to be there on a canning day to ensure success.

I've been seeing them post on FB that they have sold out several times recently. Hopefully a few hours before the Harvest Festival on Friday they'll have some. I can't go to VT and not get my Heady fix.
