As a big Cantillon fan, I was pretty excited to learn that a store here is selling off multiple bottles. Each are priced at $30 (750ml) and are all around 5 years old. Would just like some advice on which ones to go for before laying down a big chunk of change on multiple bottles.

    Here's the list:

    Lou Pepe Gueze

    Lou Pepe Kriek

    Lou Pepe Framboise

    Gueze

    Rose de Gambrinus

    Vignerrone

    St. Lamvinus

    Kriek

    St Gilliose

    Lambic Bio

    Iris

The responses are pretty much as expected haha! There are about 12 bottles of each. I can't really justify going over $400, so got to figure out the best way of distributing the bottles.

I would buy the majority of them, but top 5 would be the LP's, St. Lam, and Vig.

I was a little concerned about the age on the fruit lambics, I tend to prefer them on the fresher side.

I should say right now that i'm not really interested in doing any international trades from here, due to awful weather/risk of freezing, chance of getting seized (high, and I live a long way from the border so that's a no go), and costs.

However, I may look to do some IP trades down the road.

All the Lou Pepes. All of them really, but the Lou Pepes are a step above all their other stuff that isn't named Fou Foune.

LPG, gueuze, CSG and Iris. The fruit beers are not as good old as fresh (my opinion) aged Gueuze is the best. If LPG and gueuze were the same price buy all LPG...

I know right?! It's crazy enough to see loons in Rhode Island for sales, let alone at a reasonable price.

You can get one of each and be under $400.

I would honestly just buy 3 of EACH Lou Pepe and 3 St. Lamvinus (or 2 St. Lam and 1 Vignerrone).

Valid concern and I'm gonna go with the others on the LPG bottles. Whether drinking or trading, those fetch high because they're well made. As for fruits, Cherry will stick around longest, followed by Raspberry. I've had St Lam with a few years on it and the fruit was there but muted. Fou is well balanced and the apricot tends to stick around a bit longer than expected because of that.

Tough to go wrong with any, especially if you're a big sour fan but I'd say pick your favorite fruits and double up on the ones you think you'll want to see with more age or those you think will age best. Find some good friends who will really appreciate them and open one from time to time. Opening all at once makes for a fun night but a rough morning with all that acidity (best served with a side of tums). Opening one bottle with a good group, every once in a while makes for lots of special nights and something to look forward to when opening the next one.

    Either way, enjoy them! Cheers.
