I'm probably beating a dead horse here with this thread, but my local beer store just got in Sierra Nevada Barrel Aged Narwhal, Bell's Expedition Stout, and Oskar Blues Ten Fidy, none I've which I've had yet, and I'm super excited. I'm going to drop by today and hope they still have them all in stock, especially BA Narwhal. Just like in Game of Thrones that I've been binge watching, here in upstate New York, winter is coming--and that means imperial stout season.

So this will be a general imperial stout appreciation thread, inarguably one of the best beer styles ever invented. Complex, rich, intense, and delicious. What are some your favorites? What are you still looking forward to?

Oh yeah, and I had Old Rasputin on nitro on Tuesday. That was tasty.

Yeti Imperial Stout by the Great Divide is tops on my list. The one I had was a year old and divine.

The Espresso one is one of my favorite coffee stouts. I still need to try the others. I'm going to get the Chocolate one here soon.

I've only had one so far (that I know of), which was Otto's Jolly Roger Imperial Stout. So good and if this is a representation of the style, I lwill love them. Found a case of it for under $30 since it was expired/expiring. Saw that Imperial stouts age well, so I picked it up. Looking forward to trying others.

Alesmith Speedway Stout is my go to stout on a cold winters night but there are many great stouts to chose from. BOMB, Narwhal, Ten Fidy, Old Rasputin, Stone Imperial Stout, Founders Breakfast Stout, Abyss, Parabola, etc....

I haven't tried too many of the big name imperial stout whalez yet, but I have had some of the more commonly available ones, and they quickly become one of my favorite styles. Founders Imperial Stout blew mind. So incredibly complex. Chocolate for days. You can taste dark chocolate, milk chocolate, and baking cocoa individually. Caramel. Soy sauce-like savoriness. Smoky notes. The flavor profile is ridiculous.

Have you had Bell's 30th yet? If not, buy it. Now.

Excluding BCBS, Evil Twin makes some of the finest I've had the pleasure of drinking. I'm thinking BBA Imperial Biscotti Break, and Double Barrel Jesus. Clown Shoes has some nice ones too that are a little more affordable.

When I saw the title I thought it would be a complaint about how Impy Stouts are over-hyped, and I came here to tell you off! LOL

    EXPO STOUT FTW!

But really - if you can get your hands on Bell's 30th Anniversary Ale - it is AMAZING.

Over-hyped? Hell no. Imperial stouts are one of the reasons beer as a whole is so fascinating.

And I'll keep my eyes out for Bell's 30th Anniversary Ale, thanks.
