They deliver the same hops in a very different manner, making them almost non-comparable...A DIPA and an APA are brewed in very different ways, despite the fact the same hops.

I don't know much, but I've brewed with my home brew friends enough to know that this is really apple to oranges...but very delicious apples to oranges...so no matter which we prefer, we all win!!!

Not really. The big difference is a DIPA is going to have a higher gravity and more hops used. Looking at the guidelines BJCP, they read pretty much the same with the major difference being higher gravity and hop level.

Looking at clone recipes from Stone for a pale ale and dipa, the grain bill is almost identical, the DIPA just has more 2 row to achieve the higher OG. The hop schedule is a little different, but doesn't have to be, but the key is more. The mash temp is pretty close too, which would produce the about the same body.

Now this doesn't mean all are the same, you can change the color and maltiness by using different speciality grains. There are many different hop varieties and methods that can drastically change the hop aorma and bitterness. You can also change the mash temperature to affect the body.

While the brewing method can be different, overall I would not say it is like comparing apples to oranges. In fact the BJCP says this about an IPA, "A pale ale brewed to an increased gravity and hop rate" and goes on to say "the adjective “Imperial” is arbitrary and simply implies a stronger version of an IPA; “double,” “extra,” “extreme,” or any other variety of adjectives would be equally valid."

I know it will probably be everywhere next week, but anyone seen Schell's Snowstorm in the NW Burbs? Very intrigued for this years Snowstorm (Wallonian Brown Ale), and would like to have it this weekend.

Yes, I do. However, my wife uses my account and sometimes posts things that I tell her we have or might be getting; Which was the case on this post. Thanks for asking though. :grinning:

    Oh....got it.
I have my wife post things on my BA account all the time.
So whenever you see something that may be perceived as "crossing the line", "over the top", or downright "not cool" - it was probably my wife's doings...lol

    P.S.
Don't stop posting; I was just confused.

Jim, you're a nice enough guy in real life, why is everything you post on here negative?

Although a possible violation of BA etiquette (I am not sure), I personally like it when a store posts new arrivals here.

I wonder if BA could set up a regional thread for beer stores to post, and charge an annual fee for them to do that (you would need a password to post)...maybe this already exists?

    Fun with math...
That values a half barrel keg at 31*$59.99 = $1859.69
    Price per 12oz is $59.99 / 64 * 12 = $11.25

Someone in the chain is marking that beer up big time. Wow.

Indeed, and I do, but instead of looking at multiple links, the information would be in one spot.
