Hate the bomber format. It never made sense to me how most high ABV beers come in bomber format. I guess they're meant to be shared. If anything, these beers should come in smaller than 12oz bottles.

That being said, I still pick them up but not as often as before.

No way I"m passing on this, just because I hate the format (and I do hate bombers).[IMG]

Some beers you just can't help buying the bomber because that's the only size format. Case in point - Stone IRS.

The great thing about bombers are they can be reused to bottle your homebrew...

It just so happens that most of the top rated beers come in large formats, so to say you don't really drink bombers anymore really means that you're drinking mostly shelf beers.

Obviously that's a huge generalization, but it's true nonetheless.

At the moment I have 214 cans/bottles at home. 124 of them are at least 500 ml in size. And the only reason I have even 90 beers <500 ml is that I like to keep a bunch in the cellar, including Backwoods Bastard, BCBS/BCBCS/BCBBW, KBS, Pt5, etc.

The vast, vast majority of my unique beers are large format. And again, this is not because I seek them out; it just so happens that rarer releases don't come in 4-6 packs or 12 oz. bottles.

Because every time you buy one, the value of your dollar goes up in smoke.

I buy tons of bombers because many of the beers I like/ want to try happen to be in that format.
There are some nice things about the size, but as previously mentioned 6-packs seem to be a much better value, and I can only open a high-gravity bomber if I have a friend to help me drink it.

If putting a beer in a bomber makes more people not want to buy it (so I can actually find it), then that is a plus to me.

I hate bombers for all the reasons already mentioned here.

But if they have to exist, I'd at least like to see brewery's only put stouts, barley wines, etc in them. There is no better way to kill an IPA than putting it in a package that takes five times longer to sell than a case of six packs.

Rarely I buy bombers. But when I do, it's when I'm sharing with a friend and we split the cost. It makes it more justifiable.

True they are a much worse value oz per oz, but as others have said, it has value as allowing one to try something without buying a mixer, and there's also the fact that some beers are only available in bombers. Here's looking at you, everything from Trillium.

I only drink from bright tanks. F the bombers! Though I'm starting to warm up to the 19.2oz cans. A few I have had are around $5. Seems to be more fair...I think. I'm certainly no math major ya know...

I honestly think this is a regional thing. I have access to at least 150 awesome local beers that are only available in bombers, but they cost $5 or less. Meanwhile, I went beer shopping while on vacations to the Midwest and east coast last summer, and I couldn't find anything under $7-10, even for a mediocre pale ale. I don't know the reason why, but that's the way it is.

Also, it seems as though virtually every store in Oregon and Washington allows you to buy single bottles out of a multipack, which avoids the whole "stuck with 5 beers I don't want" phenomenon. Why is that such a rarity in the rest of the country?

In any case, I'll happily buy bombers of Gigantic IPA, Breakside Wanderlust, Heater Allen Pils, etc, for $4.29-$4.99 each, but there's no fucking way I'd spend $7+ on them. On the other hand, I'm not going to spend $4.99 on a bomber of Racer 5 when I can pull single bottles out of a 6pk for $1.99 each.

Call me crazy but large format beers are meant for sharing.
