It doesn't taste like brett though. Brett is barnyard funk - this is more tart/fruity - closer to a slight Flanders Red profile in there. Ultimately it was unique, and the kind of flavor that might be produced by multiple strains of something. That seems unrealistic to me, which is why I'm wondering if it is more like the 2009 Kate issue that I referenced, in that something is aging unexpectedly.

Plus - does Great Divide even use Brett in anything?

I guess we'll never know, as GD has decided to stick their head in the sand on this one...

My direct response when issuing an email to their information contact point:

    YaKnowBrady,

Thank you for getting in touch. We are, and have been, looking into the issue with our latest batch of Barrel Aged Yeti. We have sampled and tested numerous bottles out of our archives and none have been sour in any way. That being said, based on customer feedback, we do feel that there are a certain unknown number of bottles in the market that have exhibited a sour character.

Our overall philosophy is that of total customer satisfaction. We have and we will continue to deal with unsatisfied customers, one on one, to make sure they are happy and content.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact us and feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.

I reached out to Great Divide and they made sure I was happy and content. Was that the only reply you received to telling them you had an infected bottle? I sent a picture of me drain pouring the bottle so that they would know I wasn't making up the infection, they sent me a bottle of BA Old Ruffian to make up for the infected BA Yeti.

I didn't send them a picture of me pouring it out, but I still have the bottle, and supplied them with a link to this thread regarding the multitude of reports of infection. Never anything by way of replacement or reimbursement regarding.

No. I opened two bottles, a month after release, purchased directly from the brewery, that were both clearly infected. This isn't purely an aging issue, there is/was a clear infection. At that point, it wasn't even a sourness, it was a raunchy mix of sulfur, rotten eggs, and sewage. Perhaps parts of the batch were much slower to develop the infection, but this isn't something that took several months to develop.

FWIW. I am 2 for 2 with non-infected BA Yeti's. It is nice t hear GD is handling this situation.

Working on keeping this on JMW's Main page with my reply.

I opened up two bottles last weekend and both were infected. I reached out to Great Divide and they offered to reimburse me for the cost of the bottles or like cosmicevan had mentioned, replace them with BA Old Ruffian. The box arrived Saturday, while I was away and I'm heading to pick it up from a friend now, but I can say that I am extremely happy with how Great Divide handled this and will very like throw a little more business their way than what I have in the past.

maybe you need to be a bit more aggressive (that is if you actually care)? i sent an email to the head brewer among others and pretty much laid it on the line of how disappointed i was and how unacceptable it was to spend that kind of cash on a beer that my friend hand delivered cross country to me and for it to have a quality issue. i assure you that there is nothing special about me that i got a bottle replacement (same for the others who got the replacement). it is kind of like getting burned in a trade. if you just roll over and take it, you'll get burned, if you start calling the bad trader daily and become a pain, you stand a chance of getting your beer.

if you ever call a customer service line with a complaint it will usually fall on deaf ears, but if you ask to speak to a supervisor and then make a big stink, you will usually see action. up to you on how you handle it. i was offered a bottle or a refund after my complaint, i took the bottle replacement.

I actually reviewed my original email yesterday, and it didn't state that I specifically had received an infected bottle, just referenced that many others had. I followed back up stating that I was one of the masses who received an infected bottled, and he too offered me a BA Old Ruffian. I declined the offer though, it was nice enough for them to offer. I like to see them try to right the wrong, but don't need the bottle really.

So, for those who are so inclined to receive some sort of a sideways refund, I suggest contacting the brewery and explaining what bottle number you had, and they'll try to right the wrong.

Hate to pile on, but have to share the disappointment. Bottle number 4252 was infected.

Has anyone compiled a list of the bottle #'s that are reported as infected? I'd be curious if there's a pattern or if it's seemingly random.

I have. Beer mail me and I'll send you the spreadsheet.
Every beer from 2428 on was reported as not infected with the exception of 3596 which I'm writing off as an outlier for now. I have 3291 and am in no hurry to find out since the trend is working in my favor so far.

So I'm curious if most of these were out of state or what? I live in N.Colorado and have 3 in the cellar all numbered 0*** and then I've drank 1, didn't check batch # and it was great!!!

Was it the latest batch? I tried on of the older batches up against a BA Old Ruffian and funny enough the Ruffian was infected but the Yeti was not. Seems like the most current batches are the other way around. As awesome as the BA Yeti was I think I'll save my money and not take the risk on their BA beers till they get things worked out.
