    Good morning, BA's

Another friendly reminder about tomorrow's event - right here on WBAYDN!!

The new bomber's of GLBC "Winter Fitz" come out today at their gift shop as well.....

Grab some and join us Tuesday!!

    RAISE YOUR EDDY FITZ!!

The Edmund Fitzgerald left on its last fateful voyage on Lake Superior 40 years ago TODAY......

And sank in a fierce storm, 17 miles northwest of Whitefish Bay, November 10 1975, with a loss of all 29 hands on board.

Some facts about the Edmund Fitzgerald

Christened 1958 – nicknamed “Big Fitz” – was largest ore carrier on the Great Lakes at the time, and Flagship of the US Ore Carrier fleet

Sank in Lake Superior 11/10/75 – 17 miles NW of Whitefish Point, MI in 535 feet of water

Ship was 729 feet long, 75 ft wide, 39 feet deep

Left Two Harbors MN 11/09/75 bound for Detroit – then to overwinter in Cleveland

Twenty Nine men aboard all lost their lives

The shipwreck was found June 1976

The ships 200# bronze bell was brought up to the surface in 1995 (July 4th) as a memorial to the lost men

Cause of the sinking has never been 100% verified – theories abound – ship broke in half from force of large wave hitting amidships, flooding due to blown hatch covers, etc

The Gordon Lightfoot song, which debuted in 1976 climbed to the top # 2 hit on the Billboard charts

HUGE Shoutout to @LeperJim - for his wonderful graphics and artwork, and for getting totally "onboard" with this idea....THANK YOU, Jim!!

Brooklyn uses the word nimble to describe this beer and I think it's the perfect word to do it. Pours the darkest brown with a with a glowing tinit from ruby. Fat tan head that fell slowly to cling and leave lace. Nose is hop prominent alright! At least at first it is because it's so fresh. They seem to burst forth.. Beautiful spice and floral from those noble hops. They shimmer even on the nose. A fruitiness that smells fresh and vibrant and a firm hop herbal that is just darn sexy. The malt that seemed shy at first keeps coming forward until you have earthy coffee, bread like pumpernickel. Flavor is mellow earthy and round. Those abundantly fragrant hops are much lighter on the palate but the herbal is the most forward flavor from them. Peppery. Coffee and a tempting dryness from the malt. Here is the part that I think is nimble. It's so dry as to show itself off. A touch nutty, toasty and all that bread. The bitterness in the flavor is just a light touch from both hops and the malt itself and that highlights the earthy coffee . It also shows me some very smooth richness from the malt that is not caramel. Oh boy! It finishes like silk with only a tickle from bubbles and gives up some bitter chocolate in the last moments. No harshness, no astringency, no diacetyl. Lingers leisurely and shows you a last peek at those hops and all that roastiness. Just a light residual sweetness. Nimble indeed and very hearty while showing a subtle richness underneath that is the very expression of the black beer. Exemplary and outstanding.

Kickin' it Fulton Street style! Had this one at a holiday tasting last week and was quite impressed. The color belies the richness of the coffee flavor, which tends more toward fresh roasted than charred beans. At 5.5%, you could drink it all morning. And I just might!

Good morning BAs! It's another frosted morning here in NW PA and the leaves keep falling. Today's agenda includes shipping a small package to FL, a larger one to TX, and a lot more leaf moving pain. My neighbor is having a new shed built and the contractors leave something to be desired, like skill, organization, planning, etc. Watching these guys work reinforces the need to explore the contractor's references carefully.

On a more positive note, today's breakfast beer is:

Nothing spectacular, just a solid breakfast (or lawnmower) beer, easy drinking and low (4.5%) ABV.

    Prosit!

More Christmas decorating and something that could pass as a holiday dessert. So good and taking the 'suck' out of this Monday. Let's have a great week!
