I saw an old thread on here about the first Plan Bee membership, but thought the new version of the Hive warranted its own thread.

Membership is now open - more info here:
    http://livingdef.blogspot.com/

Membership covers January 1, 2016 - June 30, 2016 and provides either 6 or 12 750 ml bottles per month. The 6 bottle option is $90/month or $495 up front. The 12 bottle membership is $180/month or $990 up front. There is a one-time $50 membership fee.

All bottles must be picked up by July 30.

Is it normal to have memberships where you're paying $80 a bottle?

How are you arriving at this math?

"and provides either 6 or 12 750 ml bottles per month."

Think you might have missed this part.

I joined, but split the membership 4 ways. $15 a bottle ain't bad, but it's a pretty big dollar commitment for a short period of time.

I joined as well. I love their beers, so why not. Definitely expensive, but their beers are worth it imo. And Evan is an awesome guy who I have no issues supporting whatsoever.

Splitting is not a bad idea at all. I should have thought of that. May see what I can work out.

Prices seem fairly reasonable actually if you commit to a year. Come in way cheap in the $7 a bottle vicinity. Granted, this assumes every bottle is good to great, which can be a crapshoot.

They do. My dumbass wasn't thinking and asked earlier ITT if someone would be willing to proxy/trustee for me. Got my post deleted and hit with a 30 day trading ban for the inquiry.

Trustees permitted. There is only a 6 month membership term, so the bottles are $15. The two tiers include either 6 or 12 bottles a month. Read the details in the link from OP.

Late to the party. I read through and noticed the answer to both of my questions. I should have read that through clearly.

I joined as well. Really looking forward to a steady stream of Plan Bee and more than happy to support them as they get their new farm brewery up and running.

I'd never heard of Plan Bee before seeing this thread, but the beers look interesting and their story is inspring. I sent in my membership application last night and am looking forward to trying these in the new year.

Thanks for the heads up @ArkyVaughan.

@DovGibor Glad to hear it! Others on here probably know more about Plan Bee than I do, but I've met Evan (the brewer) a few times and his wife, Emily (co-owner), and they are really wonderful people. I've had some Plan Bee beers that were incredible (Amour), very good (Karnl, Ellie Ann), and just okay (Bartlett, Farmstand w/ Habanero), but all have been interesting and I suspect that they will be producing some incredible brews over the next couple of years as the farm and new brewhouse are built out.

You nailed it - Evan and Emily are awesome enough people that I would be tempted to buy their beer even it wasn't amazing, fortunately it is. Their sours are pretty much all above par, most of them are delicious. Their saisons tend to be more hit or miss, because Evan experiments with so many different things. And a lot is personal taste, for example I thought Bartlett (which I had for about 9 months before drinking it) was one of their better ones. Most of their beers also evolve with age.

Does anyone know how you pick up your bottles if you join the Hive? Do they have set hours?

I think they will be selling monthly at a farmers market and I assume you can either pick them up there OR arrange a time to get it at their new location. They are not distributing at all other than that. It's all in the link above.

I e-mailed and asked them about pick-up. They seemed incredibly flexible. You don't have to pick up monthly, just pick up all by end of the membership (though I hope to try their brews as quickly as possible). You can go to their farm-brewery or any of the upstate farmers markets they currently attend. They are also trying to get into a farmers market in NYC so that will hopefully be much for convenient for city folks like myself.

I'm planning to head up to the farm every other month or so to pick up my bottles, since it is less than 2 hours from where I am. It also gives me an excuse to stop at Peekskill.
