My immediate response was Hefe's and Weizenbocks, until I saw both represented in the Top 250...I didn't see ESBs, Helles Lager or Pils...so they get my vote

Actually, pilsners(proper, quality ones) weren't the beers of our youth and summers. Those mass produced "pretenders" were bastardizations of the style and not worthy of the name.

    Pilsners was my first thought.
Hefeweisens are also under appreciated, due to the fact American Brewers don't or can't, for the most part, get this style down correctly.

Among common beer styles, probably dunkel, mild, kellerbier, and Abbey single/patersbier.

I like Ron's answer of Dutch Oud Bruin, though. Before going to the Netherlands I'd never heard of it. I can't say I've seen another one since either. It's unlike anything I've ever had before. Almost like a dunkel faro.

Whei I began drinking beer I believe mild was the biggest selling beer in the UK. Now it's struggling with extinction. It acquired an "old man's beer" reputation and went out of fashion. We try to promote it every May, lots of our pubs stock it and sell quite a bit. But after the campaign it fizzles out.

There's quite a lot of it about in Cambridgeshire at the moment. In fact I'm seeing more now than in May.

I can only narrow it down to 4 choices (in no particular order because I enjoy them all): Pilsner, Brown Ale, ESB, Cream Ale

They are not underappreciated in my beer consumption but none of them are in with the hip/trendy beer crowd. To be fair I don't care for most of the hip/trendy beers I have tried either.

Milds only 3 out of 100+ beers at Belfast Beer Fest next week.
I so wish these were easier to find and enjoy.

Hands down it is many lager styles. Pilsner, Kolsch, Bock, etc. They get thrown out by a lot of people that do not appreciate these styles. It seems to be one of the unintended consequences of people bashing macro beers. Nothing better than a great craft lager -- which ever is your favorite -- Pilsner, Kolsch, etc. (Close behind are classic English styles like the ESB & Mild)

Pilsner. It is shocking to me that it is not on the top 250 list. The top rated Pilsners appear to hover around a 4 rating while the top 250 beers all have ratings of at least a 4.29. Maybe a Pilsner by one of the current popular breweries (TH, Trillium, HF, Toppling, etc..) will crack the list one day.

I've always wondered myself why one of the macros doesn't crank out a good all-malt Pilsner, Helles, etc. To me a great light lager is almost transformative, and I agree that you puzzle over the difference between them and AAL. The only one that comes close to me is Heineken, which gets a lot of hate on here, but to me is a perfectly good beer for what it is, canned and easily available.

I'd have to say saison. They're great all year around, they're the best beer for food pairing, and it's a style that has a large range of different flavors and textures.
