Almost verbatim to what I was going to post. I ate there post Dark Lord Day and it did wonders to right the ship. I can only imagine the comments from the staff when I absolutely devoured the burger (with bacon and egg added, of course).

Yeah but honestly...what else are you gonna do for all that time, shop for kale at Whole Foods?

I would also argue that if you're on Beer Advocate and you to a place like Haymarket, you're probably going to try more than one beer.

At FoBAB? I've only gone on Friday night before (the hour after Imbibe members get in), but there's really no need for a line. I walked in the door at like 6:03 and was in the actual event hall in a couple minutes. Maybe Saturday is different, though.

If you are planning on walking, Haymarket and Au Cheval is not an option and is the opposite direction from the UIC Pavilion if you're coming from Union Station. Even walking from Union Station the Pavilion is far. But if you're looking for something in the immediate area of the Pavilion, I would go to Manny's Deli on Jefferson and Roosevelt right across from the Binny's South Loop. Another to consider is Lucky's on Maxwell and Halsted, rip off of Primanti Brothers in Pittsburgh(?) and great big sandwiches with fries and slaw on them. If you want the greasiest food post FOBAB, you go to Jim's on Union right around the corner from the Pavilion. Be warned about Jim's haha.

Source: I went to UIC for 5 years.

Training last yr was laid back. I went to Buckledown for training. It was packed. They had pizza from Dominos or Papa Johns I think. It lasted about 1 hr and was basically a "Thanks for helping" and a gist of how you get assigned and what some of those responsibilities are. Might meet the lead person in your assigned area. I do believe they review to make sure that all volunteers attend one of the training sessions.

Good suggestions - would also add Three Aces on Taylor to that list

My group was dropped off at Haymarket last year and we walked to the UIC Pavilion. I agree that it is not close, but the walk wasn't that bad.

I was going to say this, but I guess it depends on the person. I think there are 2 types of people: Walkers and non-walkers. If you're a walker (don't mind walking a mile or two under regular circumstances) the walk should be fine, especially if you've eaten and had a beer or two. If you're a non-walker (after a couple blocks you'd rather take a cab/Uber), then yeah, you should probably not walk.

I just saw Kaiser Tiger on Randolph is tapping one barrel of Dark Lord aged in Malort barrels at 5PM on the 21st...if anyone is looking for some pain.

Now, now...we know that any Malort barrels disintegrate after being emptied. Don't tease the masses!

(at the very least, they should be burned - never to be used again!)

There is going to be a very limited amount of it, not a full barrel, just one tiny cask (a little over 3 gallons or so). When you enter the event you will roll a 20 sided die to see if you win the chance to get a pour. Still pretty cool as this is the only cask of it there is.

Yeah, Pat Berger, owner of Patty Long's and Kaiser Tiger announced it on the last Beer Temple Insiders Roundtable episode. They are ordering a custom large 20 sided die for this event.

I think I have attended FOBAB for the past 6 or 7 years at this point. Only one year did I buy an extra sheet. I can confirm the hangover.

Also, if you really do need extra tickets, there are often people from maybe midway through the event toward the end just giving away their unused ones.

Did anyone ever answer this question? We had a friend back out and are looking to transfer his ticket to another person. Or can I just give the other person the ticket with the different name on it?

As long as the ticket isnt an early entry ticket no need to transfer anything just give the person the ticket with the other persons name and they can get in
