I had a 2008 BCBS recently and it was still amazing. I know Rare and 2008 BCBS aren't the same beer, but they are roughly the same age so I was wondering if Rare is still firing on all cylinders or if any decline has been noted.

Agree with everything posted. Had one at my engagement party in early June and it was amazing. I can't see it getting any better though IMO.

Just had a BCS 2008 about 2 months ago and thought it was epic. Had the Rare about 2-3 weeks ago and thought that it was pretty hot still.

A buddy of mine had a drink my beer birthday party a couple of weeks ago and we had sampled. King Henry, Rare, BCS 2007-2011 and BCBSC 2010 and all were amazing! Rare was excellent. I agree with above post that i don't think it will get any better. I still have my bottle and plan to wait a couple of years to see what it will do. I do like the bourbon county series that Goose Island has. That series of brews are some of the best I have had!!

How can someone taste a beer and make a definitive proclamation that there's NO WAY it can improve? Can you see the future?

Yep. It was still quite good. I never really thought it was mind-blowing though. Extremely solid? For sure.

I had Rare about a month ago... quite simply one of the finest beers I have ever tasted. It was miles better than the one I had on draft the day it was released.

I can honestly say that I am sad that I traded my 4 bottles away after tasting it about a month ago.

    Wasn't Rare released in 2010?

I drank my rare two weeks ago at my bachelor party. It was exquisite. We did the whole BCBS line up & King Henry and Rare was easily the best among KH, Coffee, Vanilla, Bramble and the 09 Bomber. Never had it fresh, but it's definitely great right now.

I've had it 3 times this year (Feb, March, May), and it's been just as good each time. Still my favorite beer.

Just had one last night. Still good. Very smooth. Easy to drink. Not as good as it was when it first came out. It doesn't pack that punch it once did that I enjoyed very much. Loved that aggressive bite it had, yet so smooth. All the flavors are still there but a little less forward than before. Also, there is less carbonation now. After all this beer is almost 4 years old if you count the time it spent in the barrel.

I would like a report on what restaurants or bars still have a bottle I can order. Have yet to try it

Isn't Rare actually a variant of 2009? Brewed in 2008, one barreled for one year, one for two?
