After the long night I had, I decided to punish myself some more with Stone Crime. One sip in and I'm already starting to regret my choice of brew at 7:40 A.M. Talk about in your face peppers wow. Hoping it becomes a little more toned down as I drink it, but I highly doubt that will be the case here. Cheers!

To say that this is delicious would be an understatement.

    Good Tuesday morning, BA's!

Welcome to the 6th edition of Beer Advocate Booknotes and Beers, kudos to @LeperJim for his literary luminosity and reminders!

Happy to kick things off.....thought I would showcase one of my all time favorite authors and poets, Gary Snyder...one of the original "Beat Poets" from the 1950's, Gary has had a major influence on my life, for his writings, his poetry and level headed and clear insights into issues facing us and the natural world. I wrote to him several times and got some lovely responses....hope to visit him at his place up in the Sierra Nevada mountains, and share a beer with him and talk poetry and politics and landscapes over a great beer around a bonfire! That would be awesome! He won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1975 for his landmark book, Turtle Island, 40 years ago this year. He also was one of the readers at the Six Gallery Poetry reading in San Francisco, along with his pal Allen Ginsberg, who read his controversial poem "Howl". His friend Jack Kerouac based his character Japhy Ryder on Snyder in his book Dharma Bums.....I could go on and on.....

Anyway, here are some of the Snyder books in my collection - I have dozens, and some treasured things he sent me....and a few of his poetic masterpieces....oh yeah, and a great beer!!

Arctic Midnight Twilight by Gary Snyder

(from “Mountains and Rivers Without End”)

Green mountain walls in blowing clouds

    White dots on far slopes

    Constellations slowly changing

    Not stars not rocks

    By the midnight breezes strewn

    Cloud tatters

    Lavender artic light

    On sedate wild sheep grazing

    Tundra greens

Held in the web of clan or kin

    By bleats and smells

    To the slow rotation

    Of their order

    Living

    Half in the sky

    Damp wind up from the

    Whole north slope

And a taste of the icepack

    The primus roaring now,

    “Here, have some tea”….

    How Poetry Comes to Me

    It comes blundering over the
    Boulders at night, it stays
    Frightened outside the
    Range of my campfire
I go to meet it at the
    Edge of the light

Thanks Gary - for your words, your wisdom and your spirit!

Vacation, baby!!!!! Atlanta airport, waiting for the flight to Aruba, time for a beer! Sam Winter Lager, and Mrs. O kicking in with a Miller Lite (no glass, please). Haven't had Winter Lager in a few years, and must say it's tasting most excellent with a vacation wrapped around it.

Morning BA's, here with an interesting one today, my second Grande Reserve from Le Castor in the last few days. This one is the Wee Heavy Bourbon. A scottish style wee heavy ale aged in bourbon barrels. The aromas coming off this one are strong caramel malts, bourbon whiskey, oak some light hops. very interesting beer, cheers! I'll review it when I'm done

Books and beers today eh? Well I had some downtime at work so I figured I could catch up on some CCNA studying since I need to bang that out before the years up - can't possibly be expected to study without some nourishment:
