I was sad to see Noble Pils go. Now, Downtime is on the scene in 6 packs, not just a seasonal variety pack.

I think it is a good beer with a solid Noble hoppiness. I can see myself buying more of this.

    What does everyone else think?

I found one in my fridge at home, no idea where it came from but I popped it open expecting to be bored. I really enjoyed the hoppiness like you mentioned. It's a great blend of the maltiness of a good pilsner with a strong hop flavor. I suspect that traditional pils drinkers won't be into it, but I might pick up some more. It's just a simple, easy drinking, no-nonsense beer. That being said...I liked the Noble Pils more.

Damn, I never did get to try the Noble....never even saw it in town. I had the Downtime Pilsner in the summer variety pack. I liked it a lot. Then I had a SN Nooner and it was like...Wow! Then I had an Urquell and was like...Holy Shit!!

Whatever will you say when you get some Jever and Pivo Pils?:grinning:

I, for one, welcome our new Pilsner overlords- the more the merrier (as long as they are good). I see myself checking this out before long.

I was sad to see Noble Pils go but I tried this in the variety pack and liked it so a worthy replacement. I saw that it was out in 6 packs now (I figured it would be, though) so I grabbed one and have been enjoying it, will definitely be in my Pilsner rotation.

I was in the minority that liked Alpine Spring better than Noble Pils, but I'll definitely give this a shot.

I liked Alpine a lot. Downtime reminds me of an American Pale Ale. :astonished:

I had Downtime on draft back in May, but it was the last beer of the day, during what was a very long day of drinking.

I'll definitely pick up a single or two with a fresh palate if I see it just to try it. I liked Noble Pils, although my palate may have changed quite a bit since then.

I don't understand why they took Noble Pils away and added Downtime.

I did too recently. Very benign. As for the beer, I loved Noble Pils but I haven't tried this one yet.

Maybe SA did a little polling/ taste tests of their customers that come through for tours. The beers are fairly similar... or maybe the sales were a little better with the Downtime.

I'm drinking this now. Was posting on WBAYDN then saw this thread. I enjoy this beer. It's a well made Pilsner just simple and clean. Although I have to agree with a few of the former comments that Noble Pils was better to me. A little more complex in its variation of hops and cleaner in malts. This is a very fresh take german - style to me. Could drink a few....[IMG]

Because it uses hops that are more in tune with what the American market wants right now. The orange hop note is really nice and pushes this towards the American side of things (despite it actually being a German hop).

I can't agree with that -- the noble hop character in the Noble Pils makes it a considerably different beer than Downtime. @jayrutgers is on the right path with his theory.

I have yet to try the Downtown Pilsner but it is indeed interesting that it uses some newer varieties of German hops:

    “HOP VARIETIES

Hallertau Mittelfrueh & Hersbrucker Noble hops, Herkules, Mandarina

    Cheers!

Yep, the Mandarina is a nice touch in the aroma. This is a really good beer, nice drinker. Won't blow your socks off but if you want to try a good American pilsner that isn't just trying to be an IPA Pils nor trying to be a European Pils, this should be your jam.

I actually enjoyed this one, @fx20736. I threw it into a "mixed 6-pack" at a local grocery store. It was extremely, clean, refreshing and seriously drinkable. I could see myself throwing a few of these back during football.

Sammy needs to bring back the Hallertau Imperial Pilsner 100+ IBU monster! I am only an occasional SA drinker but that beer was one of my all time favorites..
