I was thinking the exact same thing :slight_frown:

My daughter was 2 when I took her to the Dr because I was being paranoid & thought she had a lazy eye (one tracked just a bit slower than the other). The Dr. humored me & said I doubt it but hey go see this optometrist, they're great with kids.
So I take her & he says, nicely, you're crazy she doesn't have a lazy eye buuuuuuuuuuuuuut she has astigmatism so she will very likely need glasses in about 6 months. I have astigmatism (i didn't need glasses until HS) & so does my mom so I know it's not horrible but it still took all I had not to lose it right there. 6 months later they said she's really close but we'll hold off another 6 months. After another 6 months she did need them & has had them ever since (she's 13) although nowadays they have contacts for astigmatism so she tried those but she's too lazy & prefers her glasses even when playing soccer, volleyball & lacrosse. Hang in there because at this age the glasses can help, my daughter's script actually got better when she was younger because of the glasses & it's been holding the same for several years now. Everything seems worse when it happens to your kids

I agree with Dave completely. As a high school teacher, I also wanted to add another (maybe unpopular) perspective. Without knowing any of the details or the history of your son's specific situation, I don't know how much or little of what I have to say applies, but here goes...

Definitely talk with the school--the teachers/administration should do everything that they can to prevent bullying from occurring. Most schools have pretty strong stances when it comes to bullying, and the administrators should be receptive to your concerns. Ultimately, the school should be making efforts to create awareness and a culture that is proactive against bullying. I don't know your son's specific situation, but I will offer this (maybe) unpopular perspective. The difficulty for the school comes when the bullying is happening away from school, through social media, outside of the classroom or building, or well away from the eyes of school personnel. Without "proof," of bullying, the school can talk with the kids, set restrictions and create safe spaces, monitor behavior closely, even change class schedules. But, when it comes to taking punitive action against the bully, the school administrators are going to hesitate to go too far if they can't prove to the bully's parents that their child was bullying for fear of litigation or other action from the other (bully's parents) end. It's not right, but it is a result of the pressures on the school from both sides.

You did the right thing. Your kid did the right thing. I would guess that the school is trying to do the right thing too.

In the end, it is a truly sucky situation for everyone. The action your son took will hopefully resolve the bullying situation he faced. Hopefully, it will also open a more productive dialogue between the school and the bully and his (or her?) parents so that the school can take more decisive action and prevent this from happening to other students down the road. Best of luck to you, your wife, and your son as you work through this.

Thank you for this! The MC and I did a test with him on Sunday to see how well he can see from far (he definitely sees better with glasses) It's hard to keep them on him, he's always taking them off which confuses the fuk out of us! I just hate that he has to wear them at such a young age. People look at him differently now which kills the MC and I!

Pretty sure you pointed directly at me as your target. Assuming I'm right, if you're not in a position to ship a box of beer, please don't worry about doing so. I'd be happy considering my "pre-Turkey Sixer" from @MCMASTERSANCHEZ to be my box for this BIF.

I feel like I should add a disclaimer, given our history....... This is not to imply in any way shape or form that your beer isn't good enough for me, or that I'm not looking forward to a box from you, or any other thing that could possibly be negatively construed from my post. Unless there's Zombie Dust in the box, in which case it fucking better be #lehighfresh.

edit: Speaking of @MCMASTERSANCHEZ's box to me, Day 5:

Yesterday was 2014, this one is 2015. I haven't gotten any of this year's yet, so it's nice to have one while it's so fresh and coconutty.

No problem at all! Also no need for the public thanks but I appreciate it :stuck_out_tongue:!

I also realized from that trip that a day trip to that area isn't as bad as I originally thought (it's one thing to plug it into google maps and see it's not too bad, another to actually do the trip), so I wouldn't be opposed to going out that way a little more often (or other breweries a similar distance in other directions). Not necessarily a monthly thing, but every few months or so -- possibly more once I get a job with weekends off

EDIT: Also as of when I posted that I think I had my sender figured out, it appears I was correct -- going back to the hints I don't know how I didn't see it, I guess I wasn't paying enough attention... should be interesting to "choose my poison" each day... anxiously awaiting my work schedule to see how bad the "heavy" beers are going to be.

And the other really hard part, and most difficult to control is when the bullying is not out right. Much of it is "making fun of", but it really isn't when the recipient doesn't like it. There is a fine line. this is where we were with my son. It wasn't being pushed around or hit, just lots of little things. Being left out of things. Called a name here or there. Made fun of. Cut in front of in line. Just lots of small things to belittle him. And as I said, we told him when he has had enough, that all other things have failed (and we worked through all what those other things could be) that if it was the last option, stand up for himself; but know you will take responsibility.

You know when he finally did it? The bully kid picked on one of my son's friends. My son tried to stand up for him, got shoved, and then beat the crap out of the kid. Loved it!

I have astigmatism and didn't need glasses until high school. I also wear contacts for it and have had no problems with it. My sister had a lazy eye and astigmatism at a young age, had eye surgery at 8, and somewhere in her teens didn't need glasses anymore.

They make such cute glasses for children your little one is going to look so cute!

Yea it looks like there's a lot more kids with glasses than I thought. I was wondering if he could eventually have surgery to correct his vision.

My box went out yesterday and will be delivered on Friday. I didn't include furniture (see Summer Newbie BIF) but there is an arts and craft project that can only be completed after Day 6.

I think kids wearing glasses are cute, nothing wrong with that. Now grown men wearing jorts...that's a different story.

Sorry, Matt, couldn't resist. If you've had enough of the teasing you can just punch me in the nose when we meet up in the next week or so.

He said you tell them you don't want to fight if this keeps going, after the third time you've told him then beat his ass. If you loose though I will beat your ass... never lost, shit I didn't want to get my ass beat twice in one day...
