Thanks for the opportunity to inject this...

This was a new beer to me until about an hour ago. But I had an OTWOA to compare to against the second can you sent, so some quick notes discussed with by partner in beer tasting:

    • Surly is more yellow, OTWOA is more orange, OTWOA a little more clarity. Heads similar in volume, OTWOA slightly off-white relatively.
    • Surly tropical fruit nose is a tad sweeter in nature. OTWOA seems to have a little grapefruit and maybe pine not getting in Surly.
    • OTWOA actually tastes a little sweeter up front, Surly more fruity - even tart in a completely relative sense. Ending of OTWOA is more bitter, grapefruit/pith and light pine. Surly is more citrus and less of a change from opening notes.
    • OTWOA is a little cleaner in its taste and feel, but Surly is softer. OTWOA feels heavier by a degree. Abrasive is an "easier drinking beer" according to a related source.

Said tasting partner said, and I quote, "Tell them I didn't get enough of a taste to form an opinion."
    Maybe I didn't win the argument :slight_frown:.

[IMG] Doing a double new beer post today. Poured into a 16 oz snifter bottled 9/14/15 poured at room temperature. Pours completely black with a 2 inch brown head, that leaves behind a few patches of lace. 4.75

Smell is expresso, vanilla, smoke, dark chocolate, hints of tobacco, and bourbon.

Taste is extremely aggressive, large coffee, bourbon flavor immediately with everything else playing a supporting role pipe tobacco, vanilla, leather, smoke, and dark chocolate. 4.75

Body is medium, plenty of life, very dry, and a sipper that I am trying to savor, but it is so complex I can't stop sipping it. 4.75

Overall this is world class, up there with the best of coffee barrel aged stouts. 4.75

Were you actually able to read that missive from George C. Marshall? It reads just like The Thin Red Line. My Dad was from Richmond, a great student, soldier, and provider for his family likely for generations.

I am off work, in out of the cold, and drinking this bad boy. I wasn't even going to have a beer tonight, but then I realized that I might as well in the interest of having it as fresh as possible. Or at least that is how I convinced myself to have it (not that I was hard to convince):sunglasses:.

This is an amazing beer, right here. It is absolutely mind-blowing to me that it is possible to get flavors like this out of hops and not by just adding a ton of random fruit juices. It looks really nice in the glass. The smell is a little bit stankier than the Julius (which I like actually--it is nice to be reminded that you are drinking an IPA and not a smoothie). The flavor is, similarly, a little more bitter and hoppy, but not by a heck of a lot.
Layers of white peach, tangerine, cane sugar, weed (for a little contrast to the sweet). But, like Julius, the feel is where it stands out to me. Fluffy is the best word I can think of. Insanely drinkable, puffy and fluffy, light and creamy it kind of disappears as far as a finish goes and leaves you wanting more.
Thanks to the miracle of condensation, I can see that there is still a third of a can. Thank god!

So, I didn't really have an idea of what Tree House's beers were like and I am pretty impressed. I think that they taste different in a gimmicky kind of way, but they aren't gimmicky in a bad way. Hopefully that makes sense. I really dig how insanely fruity they are, juicier than juice. But I am glad that there are still bone-dry mouth shellac beers out there as well. I would absolutely go out of my way to get more of their beers, though.

    Good to the last drop.

This is among the best IPAs I have ever tried, but I can honestly say that I like it for different reasons than the other great IPAs I have tried.

    Bravo to the brewers!

I like that the text on your glass makes it look like the line between the beer and the head is crooked. Or maybe you live on a boat?

A surprise second new beer for me this Sunday. And what a surprise it is! I didn't know this beer existed; the last review of it on BA was in 2011.

    I present: Spearmint Speedway Stout.

This is much better than the last attempt at a spearmint stout I had (*cough* Shipyard *cough*). However, I can't say that it adds to the original in any meaningful way. It's got a fresh minty feel to it, strongest on the back end, but never overpowering, but it's really lacking in Speedway's typical coffee punch.

Again, not a bad beer, but in no way an improvement over what is a standard bearer in the realm of imperial stouts.

Greetings BA. After Spending 4 hours cleaning carpets in the house, and hitting the gym for an hour, it was time to settle in for a beer. And this one was a TREAT. So glad I drove down to Denver to pick this up. Beautiful day, melted most of the snow. And this beer comes to us from TRVE Brewing in Denver, CO. (Pronounced "true"). They are a heavy metal themed brewery that makes... balanced and nuanced beers.

Sorry about the floaties. I didn't pour it carefully. Although they didn't seem to detract from the taste of this beer, at all.

    4.24/5 rDev +5.2% | Avg: 4.03
    look: 4 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

12oz bottle poured into Belgian Tulip.

L: Pours a golden color with 1 finger of fine white foam that lingers. Good clarity but I did get some floaters from the bottle yeast. Great carbonation
S: Sour, citrus, slightly floral, nose is fantastic
T: Slightly sour, citrus, herbs. Very slight peppery note. Finishes dry with a light lemon rind taste. Really tasty.
F: Well carbonated, light bodied without being watery.
O: This beer impressed the heck out of me. This is probably the highest rated "session beer" I've ever tried. It's very tasty, very easy drinking, refreshing, balanced, beautiful. Sour lovers will really appreciate what they have done here.

get caramel pour with teeny tiny tan head that hangs around a bit.

it looks sticky like glue, like you want to varnish some furniture with it.

I get malty funk and sweetness.some ashtray charr. campfire silt.

taste is bourbon caramel . some peppery spice to boot

full in the mouth, not oily tho, some lingering bitterness in the finish. but malty sweet note is the message here.

hops and ibu here are listed as confidential, so i'm not self trained enough to guess. its just tasty overall 4.12/5
    till next week cheers!

Hello from Aruba, NBSers. The beer offerings on this beautiful island are pretty limited - unless you go to the Local Store, which is beer nerd heaven. In order .....

First beer from these guys, this APA is similar to SNPA, w/a little more hop bite. Nice malt bill, an excellent example of the style. Rated 4.0.

My firs beer from these guys, too, this is an excellent oatmeal porter - sweet, but not overly so, and a great sipper. Rated 4.0.

Best beer of the night, great hop bite, I could drink gallons of this on the beach. An excellent gateway IPA for someone not sure about IPA's. Rated 4.19.

Last one, first beer from Narragansett, I really like this - the sweetness from the corn takes this up a couple of levels. Another magnificent "beach beer." Rated 3.92.

Sorry for the brevity of the reviews, NBSers, but I'm trying not to shatter my iPad whilst watching the Packers pound my Vikes.

Back for another that I picked up at the Open Bottle in Tinley Park Illinois recently. I've had the regular version of this beer and liked it, so the barrel aged Four Roses version seemed like a no brainer. Let's have a taste!

It pours a dark oily brown with zero foam or carbonation. The aroma is bourbon forward with notes of vanilla and oak. Taste is bourbon heavy with vanilla, oak, and some cherry. Feel is very thin, flat and underwhelming.

Overall I'm quite disappointed in a very good base beer gone wrong in a barrel. The lack of carbonation killed what could have been something special. My score was a 3.59 - rDev -4.3%.

Have a great week! Link to review....

Happy New Beer Sunday everyone! Considering my new beers the past few weeks I guess I should say Happy New Stout Sunday...been trying lots of new stouts lately to broaden my horizons and it's working!
Stones xocoveza has been appearing and disappearing out of my fridge since it hit the selves earlier this week great stuff!!!!

But today's new beer is local one from Westbrook...Westbrooks udderly stout a oatmeal milk stout coming in at a whopping 5.5%!!!

Not a fan of milk stouts at all but like I said trying to broaden horizons haha..
So not sure how I feel about this:astonished:

    3.84/5 rDev -5%
    look: 4 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

A: Pours jet black not super motor oil thick but thick enough ..huge 2 and a half finger head..

S: Very sweet of the bat with some slight roasty chocolatey bitterness.

T: Like the smell in hit with a smooth sweetness, definitely a milk like character ..creamy oats..bitter dark chocolate

F: Probaly my favorite thing about this beer soooo creamy and smooth with that thick head that stuck around

O: Not my favorite style in general but always give Westbrook stuff a try..overall it seemed to be pretty true to the style.

Again Happy NBS everyone! See ya next week!!
