Same here it's easily top 3 for me. I was really bummed that they didn't bring that one back in the summer. I also miss the days when they offered flights but I can totally understand why they stopped

Rockaway Brewing doesn't get mentioned often but they're pretty solid. Really enjoyed their Black Gold Stout. Nice folks too.

    This place is good.

I was really impressed with Greenpoints sours and hoppy ales. Right up there with the best of em.

Lol. Let it go, please! It's not even listed on the board in that picture. How come it bothers you so much? Or are u just trolling and I took the bait..... That Kolsch was awesome. Perfect beach beer if it was in cans.

I was just really disappointed that Cool Summer didn't return as the OH summer seasonal. Really liked that one - I thought that was a perfect summer beer, nice to see a non IPA from OH. I'm also a bit of a kolsch purist - one of my favorite under appreciated styles, very few locals make one so I was interested. It wasn't a bad beer, just shouldn't have been labeled a kolsch. I feel some styles are best made true to style where others can be experimented more with.

Correct that there's no taproom but they do have tables set up in their brew house so you can buy bottles and drink on premises.

Right now I have Other Half Street Green, Grimm Tesseract and Singlecut Mo Shuggie in my refrigerator! It is a great time to be a NYC beer geek. I don't think I would trade the 3 of these beers for any combination of beers from 3 breweries in another part of the country.

Is it worth taking a ride out to Queens to visit Rockaway? I was thinking of making an afternoon of visiting Rockaway and Big Alice.

l wouldn't go out of my way to solely go there. Only saying that because the brewery/tasting room is very small so you probably won't be spending much time there. But if you're making a day out of it and hitting up some other places in the area like Big Alice, I'd say it's worth a stop. Alewife and Transmitter Brewing are not too far away as well.

After a 3-day NYC beer-cation in August the breweries that stood out to me the most were Big Alice and SingleCut.

My impression of Rockaway was they concentrate more on the classic beer styles. I wasn't blown away by anything, but it was all decent and was a good change of pace from the trendier citrusy APAs/IPAs or soured stuff that dominates at many other breweries. Drinking there was like a throwback to the craft beer scene decade ago. I think my favorite at Rockaway was an English mild or bitter.

Big Alice is on a few blocks from Rockaway and I think definitely worth going to. They do very small experimental batches and have a lot different beers on tap at any given time, so the likelihood of finding a few you enjoy is high.

Also within walking distance of those is Transmitter. If you like sours it could be worth checking out.

I have heard good things about them but haven't tried anything. Is their stuff going to make it to the city?

I also second Gun Hill. Void of Light is really pretty awesome. Can't wait for it to finally be canned!

If we're bringing LI into it, Sand City Brewing Co. in Northport is fantastic. They have an oatmeal IPA and a breakfast stout that are delicious.

Went to Sand City today and brought home a couple of growlers. Drinking Washed Up now, really good, well made beer. Nothing extraordinary about it, but very drinkable, really enjoying this one!
