Posted without comment, but see statement from Goose Island to Georgia Wholesalers below:

So will they then be replacing the 14.3 with 13.8?

I think they released a follow up statement that said all of the 13.8% BCBS had already been allocated to other wholesalers and the only thing they'll be able to sell in Georgia this is the smaller allotted Coffee variant they received (which was under 14% already).

What would consumers ever do without these liquor laws? Georgians almost had access to a beer that was 2% higher than the arbitrary limit that their lawmakers told them they should be allowed to buy. At least now they can substitute it with something safer - like hard liquor. I'm just glad Goose Island caught the mistake before countless lives were lost.

I was told today that Total Wine in the Buckhead area had 10 cases of BCBS that they were releasing on Friday. Green's also tweeted that the 13.8% was coming. So, despite the confusion, I still think there is some hope!

At least they will always have Smokey and the Bandit lore as a story of beer "winning".

That makes no sense. How could ABInbev "score" from that mistake? GI screwed up, but it's not their fault that Georgia has arbitrary, archaic laws about alcohol levels.

Since the letter Goose sent to Georgia Wholesalers was sent just two days ago, I would assume they had delivered most all of the BCBS to retailers in the state already. The task to go back to ALL those retailers and get it back would be a pain to do and since Goose is just "requesting" they send back their allotments and ABInBev will pick up the shipment and take back to Chicago, most retailers will probably just say they never got the notice in time and will sell it anyway.

So who would be liable if the state wanted to fine someone?

I would assume the responsibility would ultimately lie with the wholesaler, but that is honestly just a guess. I have no actual clue, really?

Exactly. These stupid laws make no sense. We are the United States of America, why don't we have the same laws universally? I think Ohio also has this same issue, unless they changed things there?

That was kind of the point, so that the individual states can govern themselves the way they see fit. Spread out the power and all that so it's not all concentrated at the top. That being said, I do think these ABV cap laws are pretty ridiculous, and that sucks for GA. Hopefully GI can get at least some of the 13.8 to them to make up for the SNAFU.

It's just this little pesky thing called States Rights. I believe we had a civil war over it. I agree though, stupid and outdated laws.

Yes, I know that, and the States Rights and Civil War. I was just making a point that the ABV on a beer being over by a minimal amount and not legal one place, but completely legal in other States touching is a ridiculous law. Just doesn't seem right or fair, yet they can drive a state over and buy it, lol.

ABV thresholds are used to determine tax brackets for alcoholic beverages by state. How is this archaic? Taxes on liquor are about 151% greater per gallon than beer in GA.

I wasn't aware of the plethora of 14.1% liquors...
