Any idea what they were charging? I heard $100 for the Rare.

9:20, not sure how I was shut out if they got a case of each (12 bottles). Guy in front of me was also shut out. I was in a black hoodie and black back pack.

$100 for Rare, $15 for regular and $18 for BW. Not sure about Coffee and Rye. He was also charging $40 for a 4 pack of 2013. Normally, this is my go to shop as it's the closest/cheapest relative to where I live. I'll still go there, but this definitely left me feeling a bit salty.

Yeah. I'm there less and less - for awhile, the manager seemed to really care about providing a good craft experience, but now doesn't seem to care about much beyond a bottom line.

Wow, they use to get a lot more. I was getting 4 packs of BCBS 13 in Oct of 2014. Just sitting on the shelf, and the guy behind the counter said they had coffee for weeks after the release. Last year no BCBS 2014 on the shelf in March 2015.

1st few times there, seemed like gems on every shelf. Last couple times, left without buying anything.

No such luck on the Island yet. I keep being told Monday.

However, on an unrelated note: Lake Ronkonkoma Beverage has cans of Treehouse Eureka w/ Citra and Lights On. No limit on either.

Yeah that's what I was told at Hicksville , Monday.

How in the world did they manage those TH cans?

Just checked out their Facebook, apparently they had SOS, heady and lost nation earlier this month. I'm curious on the price too cause they must just be using mules

Visiting family in Bayside Queens this weekend. Anyone have a suggestion on a place near there where I can pick up some?

Price is less than ideal. $10/can. Bought one of each and called it a day.

*Edit: this is in reference to the TH cans I mentioned at Lake Ronkonkoma.

Why not show them how crazy us New Yorkers are and bring them to the line at Top Hops?

We were the first ones at Prospect Heights Beer Works at 745am, went to the coffee shop across the street and ended up 3rd and 4th in line. $100 for the Rare, came to $178 for a Rare, Coffee, Barleywine and Regal Rye. Don't remember the exact prices of each. Really surprised they had less than a case of each.

There are few big problems with this release...

For starters, this is a beer produced/owned by the biggest conglomerate and probably the most financially backed beer company in the world. Two scenarios are at play, either they didn't produce enough to meet demand due to limitations (quite likely the reason most stores, and in turn consumers, didn't get as much as they had expected) or GI/AB are intentionally limiting it to create hype by scarcity, which nothing but a rage-inducing business practice.

Second, the cost of this years bottles are higher, so with that being so, we can only hope they'll use the massive amount of income to produce significantly more (hopefully of variants) reducing the aforementioned issues.

Third, stores and businesses are being overwhelmed or using this as an opportunity to take advantage of us with price gouging - causing lots more salt and rage, which results in even more frustration.

Finally, because of these things, people have been extremely greedy. This is beer people, we should be sharing and helping each-other, not being hoarding scavengers who take everything for themselves.

For instance, I tried about 5 different places this morning and struck out at all, just trying to find one bottle of Coffee. The guy at BK Harvest Market told me that he witnessed awful behavior this morning. Making fun of all of those people. There was a line in front of the supermarket before opening, and when he opened the doors they rushed in like children and grabbed all the cases at once and left, eliminating the opportunity for anybody else to get some. Is this fair? Sure, consumers are allowed to buy what they want, it's a free market, and that's fine -- but on the other hand, greed is getting out of control and really ruining "craft" beer for everyone else.

I'm sure I'll get hate for this post, but it had to be said. /rant

I don't think your post is off base or cause any hate, there "seems" to be a lot less this year, and of course as more and more get into the craft beer chase, less and less will be sitting around. With that said, I prefer to go to places that take care of loyal customers, have hard limits. Many store owners/beer managers just don't want to deal with these releases. Many times, just getting it out the door asap, limits their headache.

I totally get what you're saying, but it's because of the rare that all this is escalated. Literally the point of the beer is that it's hard to get, so you had to know this was going to happen (well, maybe not to the extent, but still).

Also, if you're referring to the BK Harvest Market on Union Ave, that's probably the exact opposite of what happened. I got there around 5 minutes before they opened (7am), and there were maybe 6 other people there. We actually waited after they opened the doors until they got in and turned all the lights on, there was no rush in the door "like children". Also, everyone was looking for rare/the variants which were not out - they had them in the office. I'm not sure if any of the others that were there were able to buy any of the variants, but I do know that they were limiting them to the regulars (i.e. people that actually shop there, not just show up for the limited beer releases). My husband and I got one bottle of each and were happy. If any cases were purchased, they were only of the regular, which I've seen in a bunch of stores around the area.

So yeah, not sure where you got your information but that couldn't have been furthest from the truth.
