Not a bad beer. Seems like it would age well indeed.

This was absolutely fantastic. I love just about everything Founders brews, but when we got a case at work, I was going to pass on it until it was highly recommended by some of my regulars. Black IPAs are among my least favorite style and I think barrel-aging hop forward beers is pretty pointless. That being said, Founders proved me wrong. The hop presence & roast from the Cascadian dark ale balances out the maple sweetness. You get the hop flavor, caramel and vanilla from the barrel and then essence of maple. Scarily drinkable for over 10%. If you can get your hands on it, I recommend it highly.

To me it drank like a west coast style hop forward barleywine with heavy roasted malts and a nice bitterness to cut the maple sweetness into a toasty maple and wood, vanilla and toffee from the barrel. I has hesitant, but now I wish I had gotten more. Still don't really pick up on the 'black ipa' vibe though.

    Well, there you have it.

I wasn't a huge fan, will set my other bottle aside for an extended period of time and hope the hops fade. Too much going on.

Only one place on beer menus so far - Rockwell's Grill and Pub. I'm hoping it'll be on shelves in Chicago by this weekend.

Glad you have all the free time needed to track beer down. Bet your fun in real life.....

I have a few beers I really want but I don't chase or plan life around them and I stopped trading as its not worth it to me. Most of the beers were just good and not worth the hassle.. If they show up great. If not its just beer.

    Again

    Enjoy

Its funny how CBS was on tap on and off from last Wednesday through yesterday at Founders and I couldn't muster up the motivation to drive 15 minutes for a pour.

Pam has finally landed in Jersey. Picked up 2 bottles last night. Probably pop one tomorrow, looking forward to it.

    so it should be $10....

It's not "you" but I disagree pretty strongly with the justification by the brewer that it's a 500ml/22oz/750ml and that's why it's way more $/oz than a 4pk would have been, when they are the ones who chose to do it that way.

We drove 4 hours roundtrip for CBS pours and some Project PAM bottles. Couldn't resist CBS without the hassles of crowded bars.

Anyway, I found Project PAM to be a thinner version of CBS. There are obviously more hops in Project PAM. But outside of that, they were very close in taste. Those hops definitely cut down on the sweetness of the maple. Project PAM is a winner.

Oh, if I didn't have the trappings of family life and household projects I probably would have stopped over at Founders. The locals were spoiled a bit last winter when it was on tap continuously for an extended period of time.

I agree and disagree with you on Project PAM. It definitely teased a bit at some of the flavors in CBS but for me it simply isn't a winner. I am glad to see others enjoying this beer so much.

I see cases of this sitting on the floors of many stores. I see cases of redakulous as well. I hope the next backstage release is better. I want panther cub!

should have a thread to post when it is on tap. I still would love to try it, but never know when it is on, and it's an hour drive. They don't keep the app or website updated enough to catch it, and I don't think I ever see CBS listed when people say it is there.

They don't put it on the website when it's on tap, they just put up a small sign in the taproom. Over the weekend they put on one keg of cbs and 2 kegs of Kbs at 1pm and 5pm each day

Found some today in Stew Leonard's in Springfield. They had maybe 6 more bottles on the shelf, no idea if they have more. Debating whether to drink fresh or age. $14.99
