Are there breweries you've only had one or two beers from, but they were so bad, you haven't tried anything else? For me, it's Abita (Pecan Harvest Ale and Strawberry Harvest Lager) and 21st Amendment (Hell or High Watermelon). It's not that they've made a personal "banned" list or anything, it's just anytime I see something from them, I flash back to those beers, which I hated, and I go with something else. So am I wrong and missing out on good beers? Am I the only one with negative associates to a brewery from one beer preventing me from trying other beers?

With those two Breweries specifically, you're missing out on Wrought Iron (Abita), which is a fantastic tropical-fruit flavored IPA, and while admittedly I'm not the biggest fan of 21st Amendment, Sneak Attack Saison and Brew Free or Die IPA are pretty good. Toaster Pastry was a huge let down for me however, although many people will say it's amazing.

I will admit that I do have a "shit list" of sorts too. If I have a bad beer from a particular brewery, I'll stay away from them until I see something new that convinces me to try them again.

I don't recall seeing Wrought Iron in Virginia, but there's a good chance I just missed it. I'll take a look and try to beat my fears.

Clearly the ones you've tried from the breweries you mentioned have added ingredients. Personally, I'd seek out a beer without fruit or nuts or other adjuncts from these guys, if the flavored beers were off-putting. I'd ususally think that most breweries ought to have some decent traditional style beers in their portfolio behind their more popular fruit and flavored offerings. I can't really vouch for Abita, as I've only had one beer from them, and it was a raspberry wheat, but I do know that Brew Free or Die and Down To Earth are decent brews from 21sf Amendment

    Good luck!

I would add Bitter American to the list of solid 21st Amendment beers. Back in Black is pretty good if you like black IPAs. As for Abita, I will always have a soft spot for Turbodog. It was the rare darker beer available in the south back in the 90's.

I'll try several styles before I "give up" on a brewery. But once I do give up, that brewery gets passed over. I would try something from them if it gets reviewed very well on here, otherwise they've pretty much lost my business. There are too many beers that I KNOW are outstanding to waste time / money on a brewery that can't deliver.

I have had exactly 2 beers each from different brewers that turned me completely off to the entire name. Both had strong and very terrible off flavors. One had plastic and one had the taste pencil erasers or rubber. If I had ever seen singles form the brewer again I might have tried something else. I have to say though that there are plenty of times I had what you would call common flaws or off flavors in beers from all kinds of brewers. I think that you will see more low ratings for beers that were not as successful from brewers who try harder to put out more styles and more new beers.

Damn, I thought Rouge really went deep with the crazy experiment beers. Anything's possible after "Beard Beer", hmmmm I really should crack that damn thing. I can't imagine what a year plus does to a "beard" beer I've never tried.
But I digress to the OP, which you would think Rouge would be my answer, nope. They can be wacky but they have some nice solid core beers IMO.

I have a pretty long fuse & give brewers multiple chances, I'd have to say overall Leinenkugel, top to bottom is the factory of sadness or maybe factory of MEH as far as craft goes. At this point being that they are in Miller's portfolio they are really crafty ala, Blue Moon & Shock Top.

As much as Sam Adams gets dumped on around here, & I was less of a fan of SA when I signed up in '08, Leinenkugel to me gets a bigger stink eye from me than SA, especially at similar price points. Sadly, if SA is sure to give me something average to decent, Leinenkugel will always be the big let down. Yes, Big Eddy, sadly is right there with the rest, w/Ed it was nice try but too much of a boozy mess for the most part. Much like the bigger beers SA was putting out, but they had 1 or 2 worth buying more.

Though 21st Amendment is readily available to me I have yet to snag a single or 2, Hell or High would not be a starting point. Abita is okay, Turbodog was average I thought & Purple Haze tasted artificial & unless it's a lambic from across the pond fruit infused lighter beers are a NO for me.

If you miss out on Hop Crisis because you didn't like the Hell or High Watermelon, you're only hurting yourself

Southern Tier is like that for me. First try was a Creme Brûlée sugar bomb thing, and I have liked nothing since then. I've tried, can't do it.

It takes a lot for me to write off a brewery, so much so I don't think I have one I've totally written off. Certainly there are some beers that are not that great to me, but I tend to give them another chance down the road.

There are plenty of "meh" beers that have caused me to pass on other beers from the same brewery but the absolute tops for awful beers that prevent me from ever drinking anything ever again from them is Evil Twin.

I was in a Total Wine where they were offering tastings from Evil Twin. Despite only serving 2 oz communion cup sized samples, two of them were drain pours. The first was a fruity concoction, one was some sort of candy bar flavored sugary mess and the third was a smoked pilsner which tasted like beer that had been aged in an old tire.

Evil Twin is almost entirely responsible for my vow that I will never drink flavored beers again...

4,000 craft breweries in the US, 10,000 world wide. It they offer 5 brands each, that is a heck of a lot of beer to choose from. If I get a dull or bad beer from a brewery I usually reach for one of the other 50,000 beers out there.

It would take quite a few bad beers for me to completely write off a brewery. I can't think of any I've had multiple beers from and didn't enjoy one of them.
