Ron Pattinson has claimed here many times that this beer does not accurately resemble a classic Berliner Weisse. Your thoughtful impression is probably somewhat in sync with that.

Happy New Beer Sunday Fellow BA'S!!!!!!

Watching the jets game just ate some super dank crab cakes after working on the rx7 for a little peeping for rust repair and roll cage.... so decided to open one of my new beers.

Which Again is another new stout which I'm trying to hold my self to at least one a week.

We have: Praire Christmas BOMB! Coming in at 11%

I loved regular BOMB! And other winter spiced stouts like xocoveza (which I really wish I could get more of) but this one seemed to fall a bit short for me, tho I'm very picky with my stouts.

    So anyway.....

    A bit of cinnamon/nutmeg.

T: A tingly pepper taste at the front tapering off to a bitter roasted chocolate malt taste...some cinnamon/nutmeg coffee character at the end.....also has a milk like taste.

F: Oily thick viscous all that's fun stout stuff.

O: Not the best "holiday spiced" stout out there worth a try For sure..

    Hey everyone,

Happy NBS of this Thanksgiving weekend. Shaping up to be a nice day. The tree has been bought and will be put up later. The only negative being that I'm inside watching the Giants stink it up so far. Anyway, it's been a Carton weekend after a visit to pick up cans yesterday. New Carton (slash Smuttlabs) beer:

Sit Down Son, which I heard was a dig at Stillwater's copying of their Boat with Yacht. Anyway, it's labeled as a dry hopped session lager. It pours a very pale straw color. Smells faintly of spicy citrus hops. Not overpowering at all. Taste is light, a bit spicy, maybe a bit citrusy. It's the perfect football Sunday beer, very tasty in a light, refreshing session lager way. Sometimes I have to remind myself that not everything needs to be a hop bomb. Cheers!

    Sierra Nevada Coffee Stout.
I'm not a fan of Stouts with coffee added to them and this beer hasn't changed that. A little coffee flavor from the malts is fine When coffee is the strongest flavor I prefer the unflavored stout. Anyway when poured into a glass this is a great looking beer dark black body and a nice coffee head. This is no way way bad beer in fact it's good just not my cup of tea.

Good afternoon NBSers. Hope all is well.

First new beer of the day (not sure how many new ones there will be, but I'm open to more, hehe) is Creature Comforts Tropicália from Athens, GA. 6.6% IPA. Very nice, easy-drinker.

12 ounce can poured into a tulip. No date on can that I can see.

Pours golden but settles a hazy copper in the glass. Wispy, sudsy white head stands tall. Eventually the head craters and becomes a scattered lace. 4.5

Citrus-forward in the aroma, with subdued orange and grapefruit. Sweet and floral beneath with some hints of melon. I like what I'm smelling apart from not getting enough of any of it. 4

Surprisingly sweeter in taste than I was expecting, but also highly zesty with some grapefruit bite. Floral in the finish and it lingers with a nice, respectful bitterness. The lightness to this beer is excellent and it still retains a good creaminess. T- 4 M- 4.25

Very enjoyable beer and far too easy to drink. This is a tailgate/camping/beach/lawnmower/go-to beer. Very nice.

Good afternoon NBS, hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Brewing and enjoying a kind of new beer (I had it on draft last night), PA's next heavily hyped bourbon barrel coffee stout, Victory Java Cask.

750 ml bottle poured into a tulip

A- Black with a three finger mocha head

S- Rich coffee, espresso, chocolate, oak, bourbon, some vanilla.

T- Smooth roasted coffee with a great bitter finish, creamy chocolate, faint oak, all brought together is great bourbon character that isn't overwhelming.

M- Smooth, medium to full body, creamy, nice carbonation.

O- Victory knocked it out of the park with this one. It is has been years since I've had KBS and BCBCS, but I feel this is at the same level. Definitely will be stocking up! Very drinkable at 14.3%.

Trying my first Prairie Bomb!, poured into a large holiday coffee mug (note to self, self get a nice beer glass). Definite chocolate and vanilla nose, taste is chocolate, coffee and booze, not much bitterness. Chili pepper is there if you think about it, but doesn't dominate. I like it, though struggle to justify the $8.80 cost per bottle. Still, It is going on my favorites list!

Hey guys! I'm still relatively new to NBS and far from a regular but wanted to kick in since I decided to try Trickery for the first time. I can say this - not a disappointment in any way. My review follows - cheers!

Poured 2015 version from bomber into Spiegleau stout glass.

Color is black. Great dark tan foamy head forms. Solid retention but wish it stuck around a bit longer. Very pronounced lacing.

Nose big on brandy. Hard to pull out much else at first but a bit of caramel and chocolate is there for me and knowing it's apple brandy makes the apples standout - not sure I would have gotten that otherwise. As it warmed the caramel comes through more but not much else seems to change for me.

Flavor is basically perfect. Far more balanced than the nose would indicate. Warmth from the brandy is there and apple is clear, but chocolate, caramel, raisin/prune are all huge and in incredible balance. Finish is long o the brandy and dried fruit with a nice dry chocolate too. In no way does it come off as boozy, but there is a definite warmth. Comparing to BCBS i had yesterday (13.7 vs this 13.5) this feels like it could be 1/2 the stated ABV where BCBS is every bit of that 13.7 imho.

Feel is about as perfect as can be. Carbonation level is perfect, nice slight bitter but tight enough to really lift the sweeter aspects off the palate. The things I live in fear of with these types of brews (syrupy feel, abrasive booze etc.) are nowhere to be found here. There is a great body and depth to this and the warmth really does stick around but that's all the "booziness" to speak of.

I try not to give into hype, and really didn't go crazy to seek this out or anything, but it might very well be the best Virginia beer I've had. Simply fantastic.

Greetings @Chris33 and @Angerhaus . We'd love to hear what you experienced in these beers. Here on New Beer Sunday, it's more of a "tell us what you think" as opposed to just "What did you drink?"
Please tell us about how good, bad, impressive, etc...

There is a reason I like to let barrel aged beers sit a year. Color is black with a lighter tan with 1.5 finger head. Fair retention and spotty lacing. The nose is bourbon with hints of roasted malt and chocolate, slight vanilla, marshmallow and caramel. The bourbon is rather strong and the beer very bitter. Roasted malt and chocolate overtones with sweet caramel and coffee.Very light in carbonation with a medium mouthfeel.

This was a bit harsh when fresh. I bet 1-2 years would let the stout shine and the bourbon notes compliment.

Good afternoon NBS followers and many thanks to Dave for the great start again. Been a busy week for me flew down to FL on Tuesday to see some family for Thanksgiving and then back on the plane Friday to get home. Took time out yesterday to chase some beer in VT and the Lawson's Finest pop-up sale. Been up since way to early this morning as today is the day for opening the Christmas season for us. The number of decorations seems to grow every year. Three trees this year a 12' in the dining room a 6' in the family room and this year this Charlie brown tree appeared that was just to cute to pass up. A few lights outside and 8 hrs later I'm pretty well done.
My new beer for today comes from the Lawson's Finest sale of yesterday it is their Reverse Migration IPA a collaboration with Cigar City. It is an IPA infused with real Mango and Passion Fruit and 5 different types of hops.
This beer poured a darkish orangey golden color into my glass. A thin white head on the top.
The nose is sweet a lot of passion fruit with the mango losing out as distant second. There is little else that I find in the nose.
The taste is not you would expect after the nose. I expected sweet and fruity but the fruit is there but a nice sharp bitterness from the hops. You can taste the fruit but it is well blended to the bitterness of the hops.
The mouthfeel is smooth the carbonation is very even through out the bottle.
This is not your normal Lawson's Finest beer. A nice blend of fruits and hops and yes it is drinkable enough. I'm also going to say I'm glad it was a 2 bottle limit yesterday and I got to try this beer. But not something I would bother to chase again.
I'm getting ready to cook a turkey this afternoon as being away you don't get any leftovers and the best part of Thanksgiving to me is the turkey soup made from what is left after your done eating the bird.

Ugh, still recovering from last night's "practice session" for my tasting group's biggest event, Stout Night, which is in two weeks. Had two folks drop out at last minute so we had a bit too much beer to consume, and I am feeling it, especially as today at work was a zoo, and I had to stay an hour late to catch up.

Excellent job today all, with extremely well done reviews and descriptions of amazing beers. Keep em coming.

I do plan to make it out for something calmative and new to drink, and will see you then.

@cavedave provided enough alliteration for the both of us, so I'll dispense with trying to top him. So, after bailing on church service this morning (NOT a common practice if you read my NBS reviews) and sitting down to a nice portobello, sun-dried tomato, mozzarella and sausage omelette with buttered rye bread and iced-coffee, I posed to my wife an idea: let's go get me some exercise clothing at the outlet mall in Tannersville, PA. And so, we did. $100 later, I have shoes, shirts, and shorts. Now all I need is the motivation to go down the hill tomorrow and sign up for a gym membership. We left as things got crowded, and were rewarded with standstill traffic on Rt. 80 East. Joy! An hour later we arrived home. Time for a drink! In fact, it's a vicious cycle- I drink and get fat, so i go buy exercise clothing, forget it's still "Black Friday" and "Thanksgiving" weekend, sit in traffic, and feel the need to alleviate the agony of sitting in traffic and dealing with inept drivers is... drumroll... beer... which necessitates the exercise. You see? Vicious. Enough of spilling my purse out on the table, on with the show.

    Beer review link here

For all your information... how have I not reviewed this before? A favorite style and a fantastic offering by a Maine brewery. It got me thinking, and well... it's funny, but funnier to those who live there?

To be fair, those of you that are natives, is it really like this?

Guys, I'm shamefully working my way towards ticking every beer style on BA, but having fun doing it and learning about lots of beers I might otherwise not drink. Today is style tick #99, American Dark Wheat Ale, and Anchor's Winter Wheat falls into the category:

    3.97/5 rDev +2.8%
    look: 5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4

12 ounce bottle poured into a weizen glass.

Deep brown body bordering on black with some light brown/amber hues at the base of the glass. The head is oatmeal-colored, frothy, full and chewy-looking. Lace scatters about the glass and resembles the suds on some dirty dishes, but in a much more delicious and appetizing way. 5

Chocolatey nose that also has a bit of a lager-like yeast or malt aroma that I think of as being a bit acrid and almost cider-like (there's some apple there). Actually, on second thought, this aroma is what I smell often in a Guiness, so you make the connection if you wish. It's a tad wheat-y and floral to boot. 3.5

Ahhh, very nice flavor here. Retains the chocolatey, roasted malt flavor from the nose, but the acrid elements recedes significantly and practically disappears. It can easily go unperceived but there's is a low-key wheat flavor, almost vegetal, along with some caramel. 4

Drinkability may be the greatest attribute to this beer. It's got the fullness and richness of a stout, light sweetness, and a semi-dry finish. Throughout it feels refreshing and easy-drinking, perhaps more so than any stout could achieve. 4.25

I admit I drank this for the style tick, but I'd drink it again and in abundance. Very enjoyable.
