I turn 40 this December. To celebrate, I decided to have a barley wine (or related beer) for each day of the month until the new year. I've been accumulating them slowly over time.

I needed 31 beers, but I went a little overboard and have 35 at the moment (and I have my eye on 3 others to get still).

The majority are probably from last year. Some are brand new, others go back more than 5 years. Most of these I've had before, but there's a decent amount that will be new to me.

I'm very much looking forward to getting started.

Over the last half year, I've also been trying to drink most of the beer that I've had stashed away... and when these barley wines are gone, 2016 will be the start of me having a much slimmer stash.

Please feel free to post about any barley wines you'll drink in the coming month.

    Cheers.

Looks like they aren't all barleywines, but close enough, I say! Happy 40th!

I have a Hand & Seal, Mash, Omega Point, BA Bigfoot and a few Saturns hanging around. I am bound to open at least one this month.

There's an intentional range (and looseness).

As a barleywine fanatic I wholeheartedly approve of this plan. I drink the crap out of them so I don't actually have many on hand at the moment - a 2013 insanity, BCBBW from last year, the barrier barleywine, maybe one or two others.

Zid do you ever get up to cable beverages in rockland county? Last few visits he's had a wide array of hard to find barleywines, including BA old ruffian and BA Thor's hammer. Worth a trip if you're not too far and have a car.

I've had many of those, and you've got a great range going. I think Adnam's Tally-Ho Reserve (2012) may be the best of the bunch.

Fair warning with the Harvest Dance if you've not had it before: that's more like a Weihenstephan Vitus (weizenbock/imperial weisse) than a wheated barley wine.

Thanks for the tip. I've made it up to Cable a few times but it's a trek. I grabbed a Thomas Hardy's there once.

The Barrier beer is one of the ones I'm most excited about. The Pretty Things beer will be bittersweet.

MOAS is a must!!! I'm actually in the same boat as you with an out of hand stash of BW that I've collected looking for my favorite and so far it's MOAS.

I thought I saw some older Old Stocks on the shelves the last time I was there- that one definitely ages gracefully.

I enjoyed a Fuller's Vintage and Samuel Smith's Yorkshire Stingo when I turned 50 last year- also came from the same shelves . Fabulous beers.

Today I just grabbed an Atlantic Brewing Manly Men Sea Smoke - a smoked barleywine- from Canal's in south Jerz. It will not make it to my next birthday- heck, it probably won't make it to next week :grinning:.

Dude, that is a straight up awesome idea. I like how you expanded the idea, too, to not limit yourself to "pure" BWs. You've got some excellent beers lined up. Enjoy!

I see you have Weyerbacher Blithering Idiot. 2015 Weyerbacher Insanity should be released soon and I would recommend it. It's an excellent barleywine!

A little while ago I had a nice barleywine from a local brewery, Seventh Son Brewing The Wild Hunt. Posted about it in the NBS thread, I thought it was good. Their Ladies & Gentlemen was a good barleywine from what I remember, too.

Damn, 31 barleywines in 31 days. Also maybe 31 pounds in 31 days as well? Those are some thick ass beers! I'm sure you have a plan.

Anyway, I did bring a Portsmouth Brewery Barleywine back from Maine and I'm gonna have it soon...

Those beers would last about a week in my care and keeping. Especially that CW BA BW, London Balling and that Gulden Draak. Those would be as good as dead two days ago.

Barleywine is absolutely one of my favorite styles but unfortunately one I'm not seeing much of in my current location. I will need to find a solution to this. Anyway, I love your plan and would certainly do something similar if those beers were available. Cheers.

I have a Clown Shoes Pierre Ferrand Billionaire waiting for me in TX when I visit my family for Christmas; I've been waiting for that one a while. I still have to try my EvilTwin Freudian Slip, FW Helldorado and Clown Shoes Flight of the Angry Beast to drink this year. Man, it's going to be a long December.
