Lessons learned, my friend...We've all been there one way or the other to varying degrees...live, learn, and continue to drink good (but more reasonably priced) beer...

It's your time and money and if this is what you want to do with it, more power to you even though I don't understand it. I think waking up your visiting family to mule for you might have crossed a line however. It seems like self destructive behavior. Something like that can't make the wife happy.

Seeing assholes hoarding it takes a lot of the fun out, I know that.

imo usually hype is deserved but it's best to proceed with caution.

IMO Big Bad Baptist is superior to BCBCS this year.

Yeah, the thing with the visiting family used as mules and the running around seems a bit much to me. Obviously a lot of people do it, but I'm with the crowd that doesn't think it's worth it to go to these extremes to get your hands on a yearly release. Wayyyyyyy too expensive and way too much time away from actual drinking! Seriously, IMO if people just went when a store opened or whenever they had time and just bought a few bottles, this shit would stop and a lot more people would be drinking and enjoying these beers.

What's ruining it is stores that charge that much for BCBS and variants. I took a 2 hour trip up to Bend to go black Friday shopping, and thought "hey, I'll see if I can get some BCBS while I'm here." Found a local bottle shop, walked in, asked if they had any and they had BCBS and BCBBW, bought two of each, 11 for the BCBS and 15 for the BCBBW (there's no sales tax in Oregon). I left happy, didn't have to wait in any lines, and it was about 1pm when I went in.

Had I walked in and had to buy 20 dollars worth of other beer I would've walked out.

You live in the wrong place. I was visiting family in Topeka, KS. Walked into the best beer store in town at 1:30pm. Picked up 2 bottles for $10. There were still 5 cases sitting there. They had no limit. I could've bought a case. No they didn't have any variants, but it was a pretty painless experience. (Except for a minor ice storm).

Everyone always gets on their high horses in responding to posts like this. "I would never chase a beer, pay expensive prices and yada yada yada." You might have gotten ripped off, but if you really wanted these beers and could afford the asking price then who is anyone to tell you that you are wrong?

Living in CA, I showed up Black Friday 5 minutes before Whole Foods opened, and got everything I wanted at a fair price, while bringing only my dad, who just wanted a Latte at Starbucks for his patsy troubles.

My local store sold out of the varietals in 5 minutes. I was too late. I have another source.
I paid $15 for one bottle of the new pint size. Let's see if it's worth it.

Takes SO out at 2am to sit in the cold and rain outside of a liquor store. Calls the OTHER guy stupid.

So rich I can't stand it!

Let's see here. You're asking if you as one of the buyers of Bourbon County has ruined it for other potential buyers. Now, remember. I only put in bold the points I think are important.

I want to take a moment to share an experience I had last year. After having a very frustrating Black Friday, my buddies and I called it quits. The next week I went to my usual local spot in the SW burbs of Chicago. There was a line of about 10 people at 8am and they usually open around 9 so I stopped and jumped in. After waiting for almost an hour, (he let us into the store early to get us out of the cold) some lady jumped right into the front of the line. She had been sitting in her warm car while her boyfriend held her place in line. Long story short my guy was promised by his distributor he would have it that day. Upon showing up to open he not only noticed a line but when he went inside he noticed his shipment hadn't arrived. He was rattled that goes without saying as he had obviously told these customers he would have it then. Meanwhile the lady who spent the time waiting in her car throws a shit fit about the beer not being there and her time is valuable and she waited over an hour. (in her car with the heat and radio mind you.) Feeling pressured by this customer my guy decided to start a list. Somehow this lady was the first person to jump up and write her name down. Meanwhile a new guy entered the store and jumped in line right behind me. The pre mentioned lady noticed him and starts to have a long loud conversation with this guy as he carried a look of embarrassment on his face. After she jots her name down on the list she comes to the back of the line to engage this guy. First thing she says is "Hey I didn't see you at the Whole Foods release. How much did you get?" Again the guy seemed less than pleased to be in the conversation he says "I haven't gotten anything I've had to work." she says "look what Ive got so far!" and shows him a pic. Since I am standing right there I am able to look. She has a picture of at least (5) 4 packs of regular, (10) Proprietors, (10) Vanilla Ryes, and (3) 4 packs each of Barleywine and coffee. Upon leaving she complained again saying she would never be back if she was not called back to gather share. On her way out my guy announced to everyone in line he would be getting bombers of Not Your Fathers Root Beer the following day as to which she responded loudly on her way out the door "Whatever the fuck that is! Haha." So in my opinion, even though you probably did yourself a huge disservice by paying that amount I'm not going to call you an idiot. However I'm going to say its people like this lady I described that are ruining craft beer. Rant over. Cheers all.

Yeah, it's a purchase I've looked forward to for the past few years, and it's been easy to get a four pack each of regular and the barley wine. This year with the format change, the increased price, and the apparent effort to short supply, I walked away. That just means I can get two packs of Olde School and then some.

Self control is what it comes down to. BCBS and its variants are way over hyped. There are far better beers out there. But if spending $$$ and lining up for hours is what you like to do, then have at it.

Chasing bottles is antithetical to the beer nerd credo, IMHO.
