I enjoy BBA Stouts a lot but have no desire to drink them more than once a week in colder weather.

Both can be great, but sometimes you want a beer flavors more than whiskey

    Non-barrel.

I love both, but since you pointed a gun at me, I'll take the raw materials.

Just like most scenarios it depends. If I am going to sit down, relax and have one special beer than for me I would prefer barrel aged. If I want to just have an awesome beer without making it some special religious experience I prefer a god ole stout. If I want 2 or 3 beers I'll take a regular stout.

Well said. I avoid them mostly, because, as you stated, they're overshadowed by the barrel. It's not limited to stouts either. I love beer and I love bourbon and single malts, but not with their tastes blended. I certainly enjoy sipping a good whiskey while drinking a beer, though.

I did this side by side. I didn't do any formal notes, and I didn't factor in price or that Exposition is easier to find. Just going off flavor, it was 30th by a hair.

non barrel aged for me, like them both but usually the barrel aged I let sit for 6 months at least until the heat dies down.

I like bourbon more than I like stouts so I'm taking BBA stouts. Something like Nutsmasher is fine the way it is, though.

Non-Barrel Aged. I would rather a brewery make a non-barrel aged beer to begin with (so I know what to expect) and after a few batches of providing a consistently good beer, then step into trying to barrel age it.

If by barrel aged you mean in used barrels, then definitely non-aged... and 6%.

I'm pretty much on board with that way of looking at it. I generally will liken them to chocolate covered cheesecake- it's damn fantastic as a treat every now and then, but grows very easy to overdo and get sick of. And I sure as hell wouldn't want some for every meal.
