Anyone who gets in line for a beer at 2 in the fucking morning has forfeited any right to call someone else stupid.

Beer consumption has become a hobby for all of us. Set limits and be realistic.

    Relax, Francis. It's just beer.

All places I checked into in Massachusetts and Maine sold out within a day. Crazy. Previous years I could find the stout and barleywine easily. Super crazy hype and lack of availability and quantities have made people go crazy. Oh well, I missed out on it this year. Thank god I have a few from last year to enjoy

I think you are helping AB InBev fund their next acquisition.

I think you mean lighten up Francis, but I agree with your sentiment. Just watched Stripes the other day. Classic line.

Or, as I said in an earlier post, make a party kind of experience out of it, have a good time with other beer geeks, get a hard to find beer, and take a nap later. There are worse things one can do than stay up all night. I can't understand why people on this site are so judgemental about what others do for fun, especially on a site made for beer fans talking about loving beer.

Or I got to spend time with my SO, our friends, and other beer enthusiasts. Got full allocations at MSRP and was home in bed napping at 10 am. OP is stupid for paying 3x retail when all BCS isnt even out yet. OP was dumb for not going earlier than 5 am.

Just think if he showed up at 2 he probably would have gotten full allocations, spent less total time chasing, and spent less money.

I may have gotten inline 3 hours before OP but I got more and spent less.... both time and money

There's no judgement on my part, IMO both of them could have chosen better ways to spend Thanksgiving. Party. Hobby. Entertainment. Call it what you will. Getting up and waiting in line for beer at 2am is no more or less stupid than driving all over town like OP did.

People can do what they want, and I realize beer is "serious bizness" for some folks. I was just calling out the guy for berating someone else when he did something (again IMO) equally stupid and time wasting.

I figured I missed out, but tonight (3 days after release) I nabbed two bottles of BCBS I happened across at a small-town grocery store a couple of miles from my house.

Agree completely, even though I would laugh in the face of anyone who asked me to go with them. Knock yourself out. I don't have to understand it.

I really want to hug u for ur comments here. I am with u and I hate people who think they are soooo righteous. Bring mules, don't bring mules, drink what u buy, sell it for a profit, I don't care. U spend ur time and money how u want to!! I bought 2 cases of regular, 7 rare, 6 regal, 6 barley 5 coffee and 3 prop and I am probably going to buy more. U know why I bought so much? Not because I think it makes me cool but because I love stouts and love BCS and it's variants and I enjoy drinking it throughout the year.

For me, There can be an addicting quality to the pursuit of rare craft beers. I have certainly paid out a somewhat unreasonable amount in the last couple of months. One third of what I have in my cellar would have made me satisfied a year ago. The additional 2/3rds seem to have only increased my desire to obtain more beers, not to quench it.

    1. I did enjoy Thanksgiving. Nothing going on at 2am at least not at my house
    2. Bars closed so no parties to be had
    3. Beer is a hobby for some so check.

I think this has a lot to do with it. I collect various things. None of them is worth anything in the scheme of things, but I enjoy having them. The desire to own rare and hard to get beers is the same thing. We just want them and it makes us feel good to possess them. The thrill of the hunt, the comradery of like minded people in the line, and the joy of ownership all make the spending of unreasonable amounts of money seem a little less stupid. Rare beers is a great study in human nature.

OP, if you enjoy the hunt and don't care about the $ then there's nothing wrong with how you spent your Friday. It's your life to live as you wish.

But dragging your family members along as mules is hard to defend. They have lives too.
