Are these different recipes? Or two batches started at different times? I was just curious why it's being released twice this year. Not that I'm upset about it.

Pretty sure they're two unique blends.

    Maybe @TheJermis can clarify?

Released at two separate times I'm guessing different brews.

Each release of Love Child so far has been a blend of Flanders-style red ale aged in a variety of whiskey/wine barrels and stainless tanks. Love Child No. 6 will be the same type of release in that we intend to offer you a blend of the best sour beer we have on hand at the time of release.

We're doing two releases this year because our collection of sour barrels has grown large enough to do so.

So if I have a bottle of LC #4 in the back of my fridge, is that a good thing or a bad thing?

That depends. Did you enjoy a bottle when the beer was fresh?

I have never had #4 fresh, but I just had a bottle at a bar over the weekend and it drank beautifully so I have no doubt the time isn't a detriment. Probably going to get another one on Friday in fact.

I've got bottles 1-5 (yes, I have one of the "originals"!). Should I just go ahead and drink and share the vertical now that #6 is a different style?

Gonna grab a few 5's to revisit before and one for a vertical when 6 hit my area.

I have aged a local Flanders Style for 2 years and it is really good. Some of the acidity is lowered.

I would argue it's a good thing. The Love Child series tends to be high enough in abv to withstand some amount of age and speaking personally, #4 was my favorite of the series thus far. It had a somewhat jammy characteristic (in spite of having no fruit added) when it was fresh that was just outstanding.

Of course it's probably a somewhat different beer now, but I would be shocked if it has become bad in a year and a half. Especially if you've kept it cold for most of that time...

I had LC 5, but won't be trying anymore. It was just too sour for me.

I would definitely drink 1 and 2 ASAP. I had them earlier this summer and strongly feel that they've seen better days. We really hope that folks will drink our sour blends while they're fresh and still an accurate representation of our intentions at the time of blending.

It's likely that Love Child No. 7 will revert back to a more Flanders-style red. We just had so much of this beautiful sour blonde on hand that we wanted to bottle and release it.

I had one fresh and one aged 9ish months or so and the fresh was wayyy better IMO

We just did #4 and #5 side by side tonight. #4 was a bit more sour, #5 was more balanced, a little sweeters, and I was getting some light vanilla notes. 5 out of 6 of us preferred #5.

I had a #4 a couple weeks ago, and in my opinion it is definitely going downhill..

So, No.6 is a blend with a sour blonde? Is that what you mean by a, "blend of the best sour beer we have on hand at the time of release."?
