Hop Mess is fantastic. You can think there are better dry hopped sours but news flash Walter Cronkite, there aren't.

Besides the obvious answer (apricot cut) I'm super pumped for wet hopped low end. Enjoy your first time! Casey is such a beautiful spot and awesome experience.

Casey's beers have a pretty strong "house character" (many other large and small breweries do, too) and I think how much you think of his beers comes down to what you think of that character. It's funky and has a mineral note to it.
His Saisons and beers using it as a base are pretty different than most if not all others. I can totally see not digging it. I drank the Kool Aid but fully get how it can seem ridiculous. I feel the same way about a LOT of beers and breweries, so I feel ya.

Different perspectives aren't welcome in this thread and generally are frowned upon on this website. Look back a few pages and you will see anyone not agreeing with the groupthink being called a troll. You are dealing with people who want to pay $20 for the privilege to buy something then drive a minimum of 5 hours(oh ski season is going to make this interesting) to pick it up. If they don't think this product is the greatest thing ever then that makes the ticket and travel seem pretty silly.

FWIW I agree with you for the most part but I am a big fan of the regular ass Casey saison. I don't think it is worth all the trouble to get it when I can pick up other local choices at any liquor store, but if it was on the shelves here and reasonably priced I would buy it.

But then again, don't you disagree with just about everything everyone says here?

Having seen what people do on Black Friday for a $60 pint of Bourbon County, I'd put Casey near the rear of the hype train.

Calling ssteigerwald a rookie is pretty silly considering he joined BA 2 months before you! Just because someone doesn't pad their stats by posting and reviewing every day hardly makes them a rookie...I've only been a member for a year now but have worked in the brewing industry for 7 years. I know this is a stat geek site, but numbers aren't everything.

Even though I personally disagree with most points in this post - enjoy reading differing opinions. Thanks for posting. Please don't drain pour any more BLC though seriously.

We do need that sarcasm font here on BA, but pretty sure you were just taking subtle shots at ssteigerwald and others...I honestly don't really care about any of this, just playing devil's Advocate here!

Read back: ssteigerwald's contributions to the discussion were to call me a name and respond meh in regards to my offering a differing perspective. So, super valuable. Mike1512's contribution was if I don't like reading the "mania" I shouldn't read the thread. A little sarcasm was warranted I think ... because on these heavily hyped brewery threads any differing opinion is met with hysterics and people telling the person they don't know shit because <fill in the blank brewery> is the GREATEST THING EVER!!!

Disagree with basically 100% of your thoughts @eawolff99 , but differing perspectives are welcome in my book. Not much to really argue back since it seems in essence to be a palate argument.

That said, I'll admit to being completely baffled by your insinuation of drain pouring BLC along with "many" friends. Not saying it didn't happen. I think maybe the most constructive thing I can say is that this shows a very clear and pretty damn large difference between yours and my palate. This might help explain much of the disagreement here. Specifically, I think it has significantly more to do with the backlash here than any hype train.

Cheers! Can you point me to some examples of first rate saisons/sours/fruited in yours and your friends minds? Honestly just want to understand since our tastes are clearly so varied.

What I saw was what appeared to be a troll post, so I responded in kind. I still think you are trolling. Your criticisms are not constructive, maybe make them shorter, with less use of caps lock and exclamation points and you'll come across less troll-like. I'm not the only one that thinks so.

    Have a great day!

    Sure:
    - Hill Farmstead
    - Side Project
    - De Garde
    - SARA
    - Lost Abbey
    - Russian River
    - Toolbox
    - Rare Barrel
    - Funkwerks
    - Cantillon
    - 3F

(We just opened it as part of a broader tasting and didn't love it so dumped it -- it wasn't like it was our only pour of the night and we were all puking in the toilet and dumping it out - you know how tastings can go ... Tons to open, maybe some groupthink on what we like vs not ... And just moved on).
