Brewed, or rather, attempted to brew a tripel yesterday. I got distracted and realized to late my mash got up to 158-160°F. Also, I brewed last week and saved half the 3787 yeast in a tuperware in fridge (controlled 40°F). Boil went fine, I pitched at 70°F. Here's what I got now...

Low-ish krausen and 1.040 as opposed to beersmith projected 1.075. I'm worried most about the high mash temp. It was supposed to be 152°F.

I've noticed that a lot session beers seem to benefit from higher mash temps...could be a stroke of good luck. Don't know about your Patersbier, though.

It looks like you have the beginnings of beer here. Why not just let it ride and see how it turns out? What do you have to lose?

    Cheers!

You haven't tasted enough bad beers...(not applicable to the beer embryo in question)

    Too early to really know.
Odd there is such a variance in your numbers though.

I dont think anybody should do a preemptive drain pour. You spent a decent amount of time already, why not wait to see if it actually turns out bad before dumping. There needs to be a sticky that says "Wait and see how it turns out before dumping".

You are fine. Let it ride and see what you get. Never give up.

I have never aborted a homebrew, but I did have a miscarriage once (only reach 40% attenuation), and I also abandoned a batch in an alley after it had carbonated (I was young to the game, and figured bums would appreciate high-alcohol, mentholated soy sauce)

Was there any sugar in this recipe? What was your grain bill? Sounds like a long way off for just mashing high.

I made this exact same mistake with my most recent tripel and it turned out fine...but I also hit my target gravity. Are you sure the temp is what caused the gravity to come out so low?

It may be fine. Taste and see.. but I'd be hesitant to just dump it all. I like Brew Betty's suggestion of bretting it as a last resort.

I admit, I don't see what he did. [EDIT] I googled, I see now.

I'm not sure. That was an assumption on my part. Krausen finally grew to its full blow-off-tube-necessary potential around 4PM yesterday.

Aborting came to mind as an option because it's only 1GAL (~$15).

3oz Clear Candi Sugar in rock form @ 5MINs left. Because I'm not at my beersmith at the moment, I'll guess...

    3.25lbs
90% Belgian Pale (i know pilsner's recommended but i had good luck with Pale last time)
    10% Flaked Wheat & Barley.

I only let my hydrometer float for a few minutes. LHBS dude said to let it sit for an hour for accurate reading, but that seemed ridiculous.

My god, it smells awful! Like sulphur. Googling says that might just be primary fermentation and could disappear.
