How far into the cooler to they have to reach to grab the beers?

I was recently served a Surly Furious in a frosted mug and I politely sent it back. I had a bar tender tell me that the city health department forced him to serve his beer at 38 F but I think he was handing me a line of BS. Many draught systems are balanced for 38 F and you run into carbonation issues if you tap a keg warmer than 38 F.

I like my beers, all styles, very cold. I don't drink many hot beverages, cold just feels better. When we're sharing bottles, my friends will always set their bigger beers out to warm before opening them, and I always ask for my pour right away. The warmer the beer gets, the worse the mouthfeel, for me. I hate the sticky feel of a big stout or barleywine that's 45-50 degrees. Cold beer rules!

Mellow Mushroom locations here serve everything in frozen glasses, whether it be a bourbon stout, Saison, IPA, or Lambic. I've politely complained about it in the past and I was told firmly that actually MOST patrons who go there prefer the frozen glassware (this place has no BMC on tap). They were aware of it and used room temperature glasses for awhile but the clear majority complained (I was told).

I was skeptical but having been there a number of times, I personally witnessed people ask for the frozen glassware and I have never seen someone like myself who politely asks for a room temp glass. It is an objective matter here that the nose and flavors are muted when drinking too cold like this. This is one of those cases where craft beer going mainstream isn't necessarily a good thing for the rest of us.

They have those here too and they serve craft beers, including IPAs, at that temperature and in frozen glassware. When I was told that by the girl and I replied "Really, an IPA at 34 degrees?" she gave a proud reply that yes, coldest IPA in town! (with a smile and a little up and down bodily movement).

It all comes down to personal preference, right? I say you should drink a beer at whatever temperature tastes best to you

I always take beer out of the fridge and let it sit anywhere between 15-30 mins before pouring into a glass.

I wonder if they would give you a wine glass for your beer. I doubt those are frozen.

I cannot stand beer slushies, even for macro light beers.

The amount of people who order beers colder, with ice, or in a frozen glass at the brewery i work at is pretty surpringyto me. Even after explaining why it's not suggested they still ask for ice. People are gonna like what they like.

The only beer I like "Ice-Cold" is a macro lager (mainly to make up for the lack of flavour). Anything else I prefer to drink at "cellar" temperature or warmer (depending on the style).

I like certain dry flavourful beers like Duvel pretty cold if its hot out. You can taste it a more as it warms up, so you get all the refreshingness of cold beer (not everything is about flavour explosion), and you can pick out the flavours one by one as they start to show themselves.

I guess drinking Coors Light as cold as possible can't make it any worse, but the obvious question is why drink that crap at all?

based on the title, "munchies?", i thought this was gonna be some revelation about drinking beer too cold had similar effects as smokin' ganja or something. :astonished:

I don't mind it. It's light, clean, and refreshing. I drink beers like that here and there when I'm just looking for something simple but not craving a soda or tea.

Same. I also refuse to be that guy who needs to bring a six pack of "good stuff" everywhere he goes. Good example was two weeks ago. Santa parade in town with our one-year old, ran into some friends. They had a stash of Miller Lite to drink while the parade happened. Happily drank it. And if I go to a friend's house and they only have "crap," I will drink it.
