    Might work.

They could also start offering ice for those who are so insistent on it being cold. IPA, straight up or on the rocks? Hey, who am I to judge...

Bartenders often look at me strange when I ask for my bourbon neat. When they reach for ice I am like "NOOOOOOOO, neat please". I guess it would work with an IPA too.

I simply don't drink ice-cold beer anymore. It hurts my teeth and numbs my palate. I'll have IPAs/pilsners/hefeweizens/whatever lighter or hoppier beers in the 40-50 range, and stouts/barleywine/most Belgian/big beers in the 50-60. Just "cool" is enough for most beer for me, as long as it's not piss beer, which I don't want to be drinking anyway.

Someone mentioned space, time, and money. That's how it is around here.

Many of my favorite local breweries only have one walk in cooler for their kegs, and many have their lines run from their bright tanks into the same cooler space. With that said, I am constantly saddened when these places serve up their great barley wines, stouts, or other heavy hitting styles in that 40-45 degree realm. I warm them up with my hands for about 10-15 minutes before even touching it. The only way around this is when they do cask offerings. These are award winning places. It's just how it is.

So even some local breweries can't quite get it right. In that same vein, I don't even know if these different beers are carbonated differently. I would say that requires a bit less workarounds than fridge space (individual regulators are much cheaper than zoning out different walk in fridge space temps). But that never crossed my mind until now.

With that said, places like Twin Peaks likely also have one cooler space, so everything is set to the same temp. Same as local breweries. Difference here is that TP will go down to that 34 degree threshold and serve everything in frozen glasses. If they are offering it at a higher than normal cost, I may pass. I don't need craft beer, or beer for every event, lunch, or dinner.

Is having a colder than normal frozen mug beer as a choice better than nothing having it at all? I guess so.

Cold IPAs tend to mute the bitterness and flavors for me. So I can see how many new craft fans can like their IPAs cold. It's a near shell of its former self, because as it warms, its a different beast.

I rarely go to bars, and it's even more rare that I drink something other than beer, but the one time I did order a whiskey neat, I had to explain what it was.

Edit: The gal behind the bar looked at me like I had ten heads.

I went to a local pizza restaurant and was surprised to find Union Jack on tap, so I bought a pint while we waited for our pizza to go, it was served in a frosted pint glass, at the time it did not bother me, did not really think about it too much, now I would not ask for a frosted pint glass.

If you're looking for something "light, clean, and refreshing", drink a craft pilsner. They have real flavor.

Seriously, what's with they hey? I usually have to specify like three times "no ice, just whiskey" please.

Frozen glasses are just so annoying, often dirty, mess with the beer and the foam, I ask every time now when I order from a place I've never been before, in fact I specify please no frosted glass in as a polite an non douchey of a way as possible.

That's the catch - I drink them when I don't want that. I know pilsners pretty well, and a well made one should have a noble hop bite. Even a helles should have a bit of that. If I'm downing a few cold ones in the backyard, I may or may not want that. I'm looking for something with minimal character, no off notes (which many craft pilsners do have), that goes down easy, and quenches. The fact that a 6-pack is only a couple bucks doesn't hurt, too. I fully believe there's a time and a place for light lagers and I'd take one over something far "better" like a SNPA, Fat Tire, or Boston Lager.

Moral is, drink what you like, respect those that drink what you don't.

I've been known to enjoy beer like this with the tiniest bit of slush starting to form around the edges.

There should be a special maximum security prison for people who serve Imperial Stouts at extremely cold temperatures. It's kind of my all time beer pet peeve. When I order a beer I want to drink it now, not in thirty minutes when it's reached the proper temperature.

I will drink bad beer at extremely cold temperatures, because then at least it's refreshing.

Last year I lived in Thailand and out of necessity drank a lot of Chang, which is not very good. The goal was to get those beers as close to frozen as possible. Also, it was 40 degrees Celsius most days, so the near frozen beer was good in that regard.

I used to love Olde E ice cold. It went down much easier after a 20-minute freezer session. That said, my favorite style of beer would not work as well with that treatment.

I like ice cold bmc brews, frosted mugs welcome. I like cold IPAs and pas and such, no frosted mug. I like my stouts at maybe 45 or so and sip from there. I happen to like my beer cooler than most I suppose , but you can sip and let it warm too.

Personally I find it interesting to start with a beer on the cold side - not too cold- and then experience the differences of flavors and aromas as it warms. Sometimes the changes can be striking. Others not.
Of course this doesn't include many of the "Friday night first ones" they go down way too easy.

Sorry, and no offence, but there simply is never a "time and place" for shit like Coors Light. If you like it, fine, but I honestly don't know how to respond. Whatever turns you on I guess, but I'm glad I don't inhabit your beer world.

I drink a lot of coors light if the situation calls for it. Usually this means guzzling them outside with other drunkards. It's what I grew up on and there will always be a place for it.
