CO Barrel Aged Stouts

Drinking Gravity BA Tsar Bomba . According to their website, aged in Breckenridge Bourbon Barrels.
A little thin on the body, but the bourbon is strong. It's been a little while since I've had the regular Tsar, but I remember it being a little fuller.
I am a fan of fresh, hot bourbon flavor, so this one works for me.

 

I didn't find it too thin, just guessing the flavors will blend together a little more smoothly with time. I bought a second bottle to test that theory. If you try it soon, I'd be curious what you think.

 

Popped the Liquid Brain from Grapevine the same day I bought it and you guys were dead-on. It's definitely a top-tier BA Stout. I wish I could still be in town for the this year's release, but maybe I'll have to try a trade for it when it comes out. Thanks again for bringing it to my attention, among others. Great thread.

 

I went to Breck Brewery over the weekend and tried it. On a side note, I'm wondering why bottles are $15.99 direct from Breck, but $8.99 at multiple beer stores I've been to? I thought it was really good, but not mind blowing. It had a HUGE vanilla nose but the vanilla taste was a lot lower and I was slightly disappointed at that. I felt the rum added a creamy texture to the thinner porter. I would have rather this been a big stout as the vanilla and rum would have played better...in my opinion. I haven't aged any porters (only stouts) so will be a good experiment! Overall.....think it's a great offering from a brewery I'm usually not overly excited about.

 

Which stores are you getting it for $8.99? I've only seen it for $16-18. It's possible you might be confusing Breck 25 with Holidale, their barrel-aged Xmas beer, which goes for $9-10.

 

Thanks for the feedback. Funny, I thought the vanilla was a tad too strong but otherwise agree all-around.

 

Nope, I bought the bottle. 750ml big red label that reads "imperial porter". Its $8.99 at Molly's in Lakeside

 

Molly's must have it priced wrong then, because it's 16-18 everywhere else. You got a steal.

 

BA 10/50 with Java on tap and in crowlers tomorrow at the Tasty Weasel. 10am sharp.

They're usually $25. Could be more with the Coffee added...

 

$25, no limit and a 5 gallon keg. If you aren't there now or close by I'd probably not count on getting any.

Oh, DUH. It's coming out today, not tomorrow. I read the post from 11:24 last night as if it was this morning. :/

 

It's only a pony keg? Shit. That's like 20 crowlers. Not even worth the drive...

 

....on the third keg right now. no limit on crowlers. not sure how many kegs. bartender said tons left..but past experience has shown they can't count.
