What are the most unique brewing systems you have seen?

Here is my nomination. Our brew club meeting tonight was held at a members house that uses a steam powered brewing system.

Here is a picture of the steam generator.

It is basically a large pressure cooker on an electric burner. It generates 15 lbs before releasing steam.

    Here is the brewing system.

The mash and boil coolers are both used as steam jackets. The mash tun has a plastic liner and the boil kettle (right) has been converted and has a copper liner. I am not sure of all the plumbing and controls but it works for him. Home brewers are some of the most creative people.

    That is quite the contraption.

Is that an electric pressure cooker as the source of steam? How fast does it control temperature? Can you share more about the overall design. That's quite interesting.

That makes me think that someone likes building beer equipment more than he likes brewing beer  And I don't mean that as criticism, that is truly creative

    Fair play to him

It's based on commercial setups isn't it? The steam powered ones are very efficient compared to direct heating.

It is a lab electric burner with a pressure cooker on it. I have never seen one like that and only assume it is old. I know the guy worked in a lab and scavenged a lot of old equipment. Unfortunately we were at a brew club meeting and as an officer was not able to see most of his demo. I have plans to brew with him someday and hopefully will be able to update this thread in the future with more solid details. One correction to my initial post (a few brew club members posted more pictures today) is that he does have copper piping in the two coolers for heat transfer.

I love that fact that homebrewers are forever looking for a problem to solve. Even when one does not exist, some homebrewer somewhere has the perfect solution.

I mean that honestly. That thing is bad ass.
Also, being a that guy, most unique isn't a thing. Unique is one of a kind. That thing is unique and it can't be the most one of a kind. Still bad ass though.
    Cheers.

Someone in that household must be a plumber or an HVAC tech. Nice plumbing job all over that contraption.

The Homebrewing homebrewing community reminds me of the paintball community but with fewer assholes. Always tinkering and coming up with stuff that is cool as hell but probably not necessary given the plethora of equipment available

I think this system is most unique because most people just use a basic flow controller of a gas burner. This is essentially a steam jacketed system where you could be more specific about temperature rests and ramping up and down as necessary. We really need more on this.

Please follow up asap. I wouldn't call it a contraption...I'd call it a reverse engineered steam jacket system. Sweet!
