Smell is bourbon upfront, brown sugar, maple, toffee, and vanilla. 4.25

Taste follows nicely, bourbon, vanilla, brown sugar, toffee, and maple very sweetly balanced. 4.25

Mouthfeel is medium, with the right amount of life, a little dry, and goes very easy. 4.25

Overall this is very nice and different.4.25

My new beer for this Sunday is a session IPA from Other Half.

This one pours pale and somewhat cloudy. The aroma is very nice with a lot of floral hop presence. The mouthfeel is good for an under 5% beer but nothing special. The taste matches the aroma and is good but again nothing special. It matches the aroma. Overall this is a good beer and one of the better sessions I have had, but not the best.

    Prost everyone!

Put your detective hats on and tell me what beer I am drinking. New? I had a sample in 2010 but didn't review it here.

Going sour with my second NBS beer of the day.

    Rodenbach Caractère Rouge

    Brouwerij Rodenbach N.V.
Flanders Red Ale / 7.00% ABV

    4.22/5 rDev -4.5% | Avg: 4.42
    look: 3.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

L- Pours a reddish plum. The head is modest at a bout a centimeter which quickly reduces to thin ring with no lacing.
S-The smell is full of the sour cherries and a hint of cranberries.
T- Taste is very prominently lacto and sour cherries. The hint of cranberries comes in at the very end. This beer finishes very dry leaving you craving another sip. The tartness is strong, but not overpowering. Certainly not a gateway beer on that front.
F-the mouthfeel is fairly light. The carbonation is medium which along with the dry finish makes it a really nice brew.
O-A really enjoyable sour ale. Not a gateway to sours but one that can really be appreciated by those who are fans of the style. Well done Rodenbach.

G' afternoon NBS#564! Today's entry is a new to me brewery and beer!
Tin Man Brewing Co. : OVERLORD IIPA
    [IMG]

Pours a golden orange body with a thick fluffy white head.
Aromas of pine, peaches, pineapple and sweetness on the end. Kind of subtle for an Imperial IPA...
Taste...Yeah there's Centennial and Columbus in there! Dank, slightly oniony and dry finish on the end.
Medium mouth feel, kind of unassuming. Not bad though; not even the slightest hint of that 9% abv.
Overall, this is a real tasty IPA from a relatively new brewery out of the Hoosier state. Thanks for the hook up with this one @jzeilinger ! A IIPA that drinks like a mild IPA, yeah I'm in!

    something from anchor steam

pours out somewhere between thick and thin with a mocha head

there is scents of licorice and some chocolate funk as well

I taste the chocolate more than the licorice for sure.i get the bitterness of dark chocolate.

good full mouthfeel, not foamy, slight bitter finish, no alcohol presence.

not the kind of real dense stouts I like to get, but this is real drinkable because of the abv(7.4)

    drink on

Greetings, fellow NBSers, and thanks to @smakawhat for getting this convoy out of the harbor,

Fairly wet and rainy week in Washington’s second city, where it’s currently cloudy and in the low 40s. I’ve had an intermittent head cold for much of the week, though right now it seems to be in remission.

Yesterday I continued my slow rediscovery of the longest-established brewery in my neck of the woods – NoLi (formerly Northern Lights) – with their Winter Ale, which is listed on BA as the same beer as the old Northern Lights one and tasted like I remembered (which is good, as it was one of the better beers the old Northern Lights regime made). Today I’m going with a style of beer I’ve never had – Faro – because of novelty and because a lighter strength beer would be a good idea for me right now, as I intend to go to Twelve String Brewing’s anniversary party once the Seahawk game is over. Their anniversary beer is a barleywine aged in Woodinville Whiskey casks that clocks in at 11%. Owner/head brewer Terry Hackler gave me and several others at the bar a sample when I stopped by last week, and it seemed devastatingly easy to drink, so showing up pre-buzzed would probably be a very bad idea.

    That Faro?

Doing some reading about the style, apparently this is one lambic that is almost extinct. My experience with Lindemans in the past has made me consider them purveryors of dumbed down lambics, so I’m not entirely convinced this is an authentic example. It’s not bad, just a little odd, and not something that really pulls my chain. I think if I come across another version of the style, I’ll have to try it before I form an opinion on Faros.

Over 4,100 brewers and all we know is it's dark and makes it to Wyoming?!? I'm out .

So, did grab Road to El Dorado from Adroit Theory, and shock of shocks, uses El Dirado hops. The description at the brewery is pure fiction, IMO. I might see why the two people who added the beers didn't rate it.

Adroit beers are usually a little on the thin side, and all are high ABV. Thinness isn't the death of an IIPA, though, and this beer wasn't overly thin, actually... at least not in feel. In flavor depth, or flavor at all, perhaps. My impression is that it was a better fruit tea than it as a beer. Wet cereal grain, tea, light floral notes, and eventually a little bit of tropical fruit popped out. The fruit saw its shadow, though and now I have 6 more oz of disappointment to drink.

"Oh, GF, I have a beer for you!!"

It's on the right(I did get a full version for my review), with Retreat from El Dorado Black IPA version next to it (sample was a tad better as the malt added some flavor). Don't Believe the Hype, Tangerine variant was the GF's beer on the left and was the best of the 3.

Hope my suffering through that beer to provide the first ever BA review for the beer makes up for my earlier indiscretion .

Sounds like I need to build a fire under my Oly-based brother to pick up one of those. If only there were a holiday based around gift-giving looming in the near future...

From the good folks who bring us PBR and gave us Not Your Fathers Root Beer, Ballantine Burton Ale. Everyone here should know the back story of this so I won't retell it. Pabst doesn't call this beer any style I would call it a Barleywine. I would also call it excellent. Nice auburn color, tan head, caramel candy aroma. It tastes a bit sweet but has a dry hoppy finish. The label says 11.3% ABV and & 75 IBUs. $12.99 is a lot to pay for a 6 pack but this beer is more than worth it.
This is the 2nd Ballantine product that the new owners of Pabst have revived. The 1st was the IPA. It's great to see that Pabst is giving these old Ballantine brands some respect by using there names on top shelf brews not swill.
