Hey everyone. So I'll be in San Fran next month. Is it hard to find Pliny the Elder bottles ? Any tips on scoring a few bottles to bring back home? Thanks!

45 minute drive to Russian River and you can buy a case.

^^^ this and also you can buy Blind Pig which many of us believe is better than Pliny. Also buy RR sours. Even if you aren't into them you will thank yourself later if you do.

    Toronado is your friend.

Have it on draft and take 2 to go.

    Have fun and bring cash

I'll only be in SF for 2 nights and will be working most of the day. Wish I had the time to head up to RR. Any scoop on stores? Is it usually on the shelf in certain ones? Thanks again

Rarely on the shelves and almost always subject to a limit.

Like I said in the most disappointing beer thread, Pliny bottle shipments are like Bourbon County each week.

That being said... if you know where to go, it depends on which two days you'll be here...

Easy, bring something good from your area. Arrange an ip trade.

Sorry, I didn't know what the Toronado was. (Not a local). I was looking for bottles to bring home, not draft at a bar. Thanks though

Sorry if I came off as an asshole.

Toronado usually has bottles to go. Limit 2 per person (as mentioned above ) Plus you can have Pliny and blind pig on tap, or a lovely moonlight beer on cask. Also they are open late. Cash only.

If you are looking for more than two try to set up an IP trade. I know a few friendly BAs who live in Santa Rosa and might not mind driving into the city to do a visitor a solid.:wink:

Go to a Whole Foods on Wednesday (in SF) around 12:30. They get a good amount of cases and you're guaranteed to get your two if you show up before like, 3pm.

Bring a few stainless steel 1L growlers with you to Cellarmaker for growler fills of their stuff. No need to chase Pliny.

Some other stores get it on Tuesday. But Wednesday is definitely the day for the arrival of Pliny and whatever else RR decides to send WFM.

About half the time, Cellarmaker won't have any of their DIPAs on tap (and only 1-2 IPAs). I have enjoyed a few of their DIPAs more than PTE though. The danker the better.

All seriousness you're probably better off making the trip to RR, you'll probably spend more time hunting/driving from place to place in SF then it would take you to drive to RR and back. Plus you will get a case and the price per bottle will probably be a lot cheaper.

Or as @Coldstorage mentioned set up a trade if you want more then a couple bottles without driving too much.

I prefer their pale ales and IPAs over their DIPAs, but that's just a personal preference.
