Read about this in Virginia Craft Beer magazine. DB collaborated with a couple NC breweries, among others to create some beers outside their comfort zone.

Actually interested in this collaboration pack - scheduled for January.

I've gone exceedingly lukewarm on DB over the years, it's (pardon the pun) refreshing to see them do something like this. Thanks for sharing & I can't lie, I share your interest in this one :-)

Thanks for sharing. They look interesting except for this one.

Wicked Weed Brewing Company: Seven Summits (10.5% ABV; 20 IBU) an Imperial Stout brewed with ingredients inspired by the world’s famed Seven Summits. This complex brew includes Coconut (South America’s Aconcagua summit), Cocoa (Africa’s Kilimanjaro summit), Blue-green Algae (Antartica’s Vinson summit), American Oak (North America’s Denali summit), Pink Himalayan Sea Salt (Asia’s Everest summit), Black Rye Bread (Europe’s Elbrus summit) and Wattle seeds (Australia’s Mt. Kosciuszko summit.)

The blue-green algae does not in the least sound appetizing.

Sounds like some very interesting beers. I'll pick one up.

The blue-green algae name is a misnomer. It's actually something called cyanobacteria. Single celled, just like yeast! People take it as a health supplement.

Not sure the clarification is any better. As a former biochemist I believe they are the same organism. Of course I just ground them up to get the proteins out.

Geomicrobiologist here. Same organism, first name is just wrong considering algae isn't single celled. And nope, on second thought, doesn't make it sound any more appetizing!

Reminds me of DFH Pangaea a bit (think URKontinent was similar idea). Hope it's better than I recall that beer. Then again, I had Pangaea before I appreciated the variety of beer I do now. That one actually interests me for a variety of reasons-mainly Wicked Weed.

Thats really good news! I had my first NoDa in the airport in Charlotte...their Hop Drop and Roll is on my Top 5 Favorite list. It is Sooooo f'n good! When I got back to Virginia I got a hold of a small distributor down there in Charlotte and begged them to mail me a case which they did. I used to live right down the street from Devils backbone and I like their beer but they did need some new stuff. Cant wait to see what they come up with.

Probably won't contribute much flavor, just for mouthfeel.

I'll most likely will be driving down that way this Monday and will stop at the Outpost on the way back from dropping off the daughter at school (Unless she changes her mind and drives down herself or gets a ride down with her friend's Mom).

I checked a few times as I was in stores to see if they may have gotten some early, but haven't seen it yet in NOVA. Not a surprise, but I gotta think it should hit soon.

This made its way to Norfolk this week. Snatched on Wednesday. Have partaked in the Risen (collab with Surly) last night, enjoying the Seven Summits (Wicked Weed) right now. Gave the Vienna Lagers to my wife
