What you are saying is just not accurate at all.

It does matter what permit was pulled.
The permit was issued based on approved plans that state the required height of a restroom sink. If the contractor didn't build according to the plans, It's the responsibility of the contractor to correct what is wrong. it's not the city inspector's fault.

Improper sink height does not mean that the restroom needs to be redone completely, just the sink.

Building in the City of L.A. is just as expensive and difficult as in other cities.
L.A. City code is almost the same as California code and L.A. County code. The entitlement processes are similar if not the same as in other cities, even for "beer places".

    You're just way off.

It was exactly that which caused the delayed.

It's because you're dealing with multiple agencies building in Venice and it can lead to a nightmare in terms of lining everything up

The waiting comes from submitting for city plan check. Getting back the cities comments, going back to the engineers, designers etc. waiting on them for corrections and back to plan check before it gets approved.

I agree with you that complying with all requirements can be time consuming. But if the take away from that article is that Firestorne Walker authorized construction before getting all the necessary approvals, then whoever wrote the article is greatly misinformed.

I believe the bigger issues are that they're dealing with multiple agencies given the way that Venice is zoned as part of the city of Los Angeles, and it's own little... well, Island as well as having a Venice neighborhood council that is just slightly below the level of NIMBY frustration that Santa Monica is.

At least that's what Jeffers was conveying back during the Fullpint anniversary. That they would get green lit and approval by one agency and then there was contradictions with the others that caused all sorts of back and forth annoyance and time consumption in getting the ball rolling.

You're not wrong in what you're saying.
But the belief that city departments or agencies are giving Firestone Walker a hard time is wrong.
Also, the project is in the construction phase. That means that all approvals have been obtained including entitlements and building permits.
Like I said before, getting approvals from all the required departments is not always easy, but that happens before construction begins.

The LA city departments give EVERYONE a hard time!

Go look at Maclrod's facebook from 2013, a whole year of complaining about difficulties with permits and city bullshit. You build a brewery in Eagle Rock, Van Nuys, Venice, Hollywood or San Pedro you have to spend years going thru tons of LA city paperwork and bullshit to get your "small business" going. Smaller cities like Torrence can be more nimble in making it easier to start X business but it took special action from Mayor Tony to get Eagle Rock's doors open, that is unacceptable for a small business in the 2nd largest city in the USA.

FW-Venice update: on pace to open in early 2016. We know, we know, we've been saying that we're "opening soon" for quite some time now, but we really mean it this time!

I'm sure it's been discussed, but do we know if they will have a Barrelworks? I assume not, that Barrelworks will be only for the Buelton location

Right.. they'll have the occasional beers brought in though.. while they'll brew something, they're certainly not barreling at this location

Barrelworks Lounge is good enough for me! Either way, should be an exciting addition when it opens

Looks like they're planning to open in a month and a half. Will it actually happen? Who the hell knows.
