So Peg's is closing? We used to eat when we visited down there. We loved the great beers and kid-friendly atmosphere. They just wrote me back and said they are closing on the 20th. There will be a new owner opening something mid-January.

Now I need to find a kid-friendly place near Cycle.

All that I have heard is that Peg has sold Pegs and that a new owner will be taking over. I'm curious what this means for Orange Belt BrewI got since they were using the system at Pegs to keep from cross contaminating their non sour beers.

Huh, new to me. What type of food are you looking for?

Any place between Clearwater and Port Charlotte that doesn't mind a 6 year old and had decent beers/food. Thanks for the help.

In Port Charlotte(Punta Gorda technically), hit The Ice House. In Sarasota, hit Mandeville Beer Garden. Both places have lots of good beer, great food, and kid friendly. Both have outdoor space on a nice day too.

I'll concur with Mandeville as a great place to drink good beer and bring along the fam. Staff is great too. Highly recommend for nice family vibe.

Thanks guys! Mandeville is exactly the kind of place I was looking for. We are actually staying in Punta Gorda and hit up the Ice House whenever we visit. We plan on checking out Fat Point as well. Haven't been there yet.

Nice! My in laws live there. BCBS tends to hang around down there for awhile strangely enough. As for Clearwater/St Pete there are a ton of places to eat/drink that seem to be family friendly. Have you been to Green Bench? They have a child zone outside with bags and open space and you can bring some really good Cuban/Mexican food from the place next door. I will think about it further though and get back to you. Motor works brewing in Bradenton also some some good beers and a great kid-safe area outside. You can have souls/sandwiches delivered from a little place around the corner while there or catch a minor league game across the street at McKechnie field (super kid friendly). (Or walk around the corner to Darwins, the hidden gem of brewing in Florida mattering on what they have on tap).

Fat Point is also kid friendly and now has a full food menu.

I never disagree with what my friend @BKnarr says. Those places sound tremendous. I would concur with @gjoker321 -- if you're looking for something relatively proximate on the map to Peg's -- that Green Bench in downtown St Pete is, particularly during daylight hours, WAY kid-/family-friendly. There are amazing food choices within a one-block radius that you can bring there to eat. I like Green Bench's beer; also, posting up there would allow someone in your party to run down the street to get crowlers at Cycle to bring with you farther south. Enjoy your trip; cheers!

I'm in the same boat. Had no idea, and I'm sorry to see them go. Many a good memory was made there over dinners, bottle shares, growler releases and beer fests.

Damn. I'll be 6 days too late to check out Peg's. Sorry to all the locals who are losing a beloved place.
