I can't be the only one thinking they're at least a top three Michigan brewery... I think I probably prefer them over Short's now for an "experimental-y" brewery, at least.

They've been killing it with a number of their releases over the past year or so. This Scallywagger I'm sipping on really has me sad for anybody who can't experience their ridiculously awesome beers.

Am I just stupid (popular opinion), or do you sort of agree? I'm glad they're starting to finally "blow up" a little bit.

I dig 'em.. Wish their label art was a little better, but that's such a petty gripe. I'm glad they fixed their bottle dating system, tho it can still be sketchy. It's going to be a pain/joy when they start canning next year! I work at a bottle shop, so finding the space will be a pain.. Chocolade Koffe stout would be in my top 8, if I still had a myspace.

Yeah their label art definitely comes off as ... kiddy/amateurish? It makes them standout, at least.

New to Michigan in the past 6 months but I agree. Easily my favorite "new to me" brewery. I really enjoy each of their three flagships in Bean Flicker, Mayan Mocha and Citra Pale and their one-offs and specialty beers are outstanding.

Can't wait until their canning gets up and running.

They're really good and getting better. I feel like both BA Imperial Mayan Mocha and Hipster Brunch Stout were better this year than last.

Oddsides is the best small brewery in MI hands down. Their barrel aged beers have been amazing. I also have to give Perrin a lot of credit. West MI is a great place for beer.

I need to re-visit this brewery's beers soon. Not sure what it was (their "house" flavor?) but I got turned off of them. I could tell their beers were good, just something I wasn't digging.

I'm with you, OP. They are definitely in my top 3 in West Michigan along with Founders and Vivant. I'm excited to see how they handle the increased demand for their beers moving forward.

Not trying to rain on your parade but while Oddside has improved and has been popular with bottles lately, no way top 3, I guess it also depends on what styles you like but overall portfolio no. Other than Hipster the BA offerings are meh and the regular lineup is good but nothing I find myself going back to. For almost every oddside beer I can think of 2 shorts I like as much or more.

Still would have to give the nod to Short's over them but Oddsides sure doesn't disappoint. I just find their regular line up of stouts to be a bit thin compared to some of the breweries out there but still very tasty. Top three non-ba's for me would be Bean Flicker, Chocolate Koffie and Mayan Mocha. Could drink Bean Flicker all summer long for my yard work beer.

Odd Side Ales is def. one of my top breweries. As everyone else has said, i like their BA beers more than their regular line up, though i do enjoy Citra/Black Citra/and Instigator from them a lot.

Odd Side is definitely up there for me. Don't really enjoy the vibe some of their bartenders give off (see: uppity), but aside from that, everything from their beer, to the environment at the bar is great. They seem to have some BA stuff on tap whenever I stop in (whether it be a stout, or an IPA)

While I like Short's, I'm not sure that I've had any WOW beers from them. They make a ton of great beer, just nothing that has really amazed me. I'll definitely be making a trip up to Bellaire in the spring though, as I'd love to check out the taproom.

My top 3 would likely have to be : Odd Side, Bell's, and Dark Horse (in no particular order, and for different reasons). Every time I've been to Dark Horse (aside from major events), their tap list is similar to what you can find on any shelf in Michigan (albeit still very good offerings).

The atmosphere at Dark Horse is what puts them in my top 3 (along with some of their other specialty stuff) - just a super laid back place.

Bell's consistently has great beer available in their taproom, some awesome staff, and one of the coolest taprooms I've ever set foot in. Cool aspect to me is the piano just sitting in the hallway area - every time I've been there, at some point you'll hear customers playing (and playing very well quite often). Never been here when it's been super busy (although I know I've been lucky in this regard).

I'm going to be in Grand Rapids this weekend and thinking about heading over to Odd Side. Do they sell to go bottles or growlers at the taproom or only for special releases?

Yes and yes - although you may want to make a call to see what you're able to get growlers of, and what bottles are available for sale (more likely than not, they'll have the same stuff available your local store will). I don't know if they will fill a growler of any beer on tap, or if they're like Founders (and limit you to tier 1/tier 2 beers only - no CBS/KBS/etc...).

I've had Oddside a number of times and every time have loved what they're offering up.

As much as I love Short's, I feel they can be a little inconsistent. Oddside, though, has felt pretty consistent in terms of quality beers.

    Cool brewery.

Oddside has been locked in lately. I've really enjoyed HTV/Nihlist/BBAIMM along with the Hipster/Hazels/Scallywager/Mokka. The only miss out of the most recent run of releases, to me, was BA Citra.

Just to echo what some others have said already, I'm not sure if I would place them as a top 3 in the state yet. Their regular lineup is average to me. I think if they work to close the average-to-great gap between their regular offerings and limited releases, it would be a different story.

Oddside is the best not just because it's my hometown brewery but because the people are so nice and very cool.. met the owner once and a month or two later he spotted me at the Kirby grill and invites to come to the production facility to hang and check it out.. a unforgettable experience.. also, you can never have enough excuses to visit GH

Haven't been to Oddside, but not a big fan of anything I've had bottled. But we all know, draft is far better. I'll have to make a trip down and see them.

Living in Bellaire, Shorts is pretty fantastic. Worst case scenario, drink some Huma.

i've been a big fan of oddside since i first visit new haven a couple yrs ago. i haven't had a 'miss' from them yet. imo, there's no comparison to shorts. oddside is experimental & delicious. shorts just experimental.
