    Aaand...

Still no Winter Spezial to be found in my area, despite promises and claims from various retailers. My distros suck.

If it makes you feel any better I thoroughly checked the shelves at my store...nothing.

Yeah, same here, sadly. Would gladly give a run out to a doppelbock.

It's not here either - too bad. However, just had a bottle of this year's Einbecker Winter Bock.

Really good: amber-maerzen color, bready & malty, but very quaffable. Best of all, the beer tastes pretty fresh. I really like Einbecker beers, but getting them in good shape here is hit or miss at best. Good to know that I can get more of this over the next several weeks.

I just saw that we added Hofbrau Winter Spezial on DEC 7, haven't tried it yet though. If anyone wants me to ship some (selling in 6 pks), PM me.

Do you still have Delicator on the manifest as well? Be interesting if they were exporting both.

Of similar confusion... Binny's sent me an e-mail notice last week letting me know they have the HB Oktoberfest available. A week after they notified me about the Winter Spezial. :astonished:

It's only appearing as a 50L keg SKU under the "Delicator" name.

Ordered a bunch of Augsburger Herrenpils recently since my local store stopped carrying it. They have almost a hundred different pale lager beer brands and they can't stock a single German one? Meanwhile Czech lager beers are increadibly popular, just this month two new ones appeared at my local store (one of which, Praga in a 4% version, I enjoyed quite a bit). Oh well. I've said it in the past and I'll say it again, this is one hell of a German pilsner. It's fresh, clean, dry, bitter and hoppy. There is and should be room for other variations of the style, but when it comes to the dry and hoppy versions this is really hard to beat.

This apparently humble beer with not so impressive reviews from good old Weltenburger is growing on me to the point i am begining to love it. Don´t know how to define it; Kind of an amber Helles in spirit with a slight Dunkel touch in the nose, the caramel and hop flavours so skillfully blended. As it was very fresh at 1 euro each aprox. i couldn´t help but keep drinking all which was available in the past month or so. Far from perfect maybe, but still subtle and delicious.

Killer Weihenstephan glass. I've never seen that version.

Since it hasn't shown up anywhere in my neighborhood, I finally ventured 20 miles (both directions) out of my way to find the HB Winter Spezial -- and I have to say that a fresh Bayerisch Doppelbock sure beats the socks off anything else on the shelves. Full review forthcoming, but this is a very toasty and smooth beer -- dangerous at 8.4!

The store I visited was also supposed to have the Mahr's Christmas Bock, but their web site needs a little attention.

We have the crappiest distribution for German stuff. No HB Winter Spezial. Crap, we're lucky they send their Maibock. No Weihenstephaner Pils, for Pete's sake! Just regular old Schlenkerla, no Urbock, Eiche, Helles, etc. No Andechs, save for the occasional shipment, which often seems to be of dubious age. No Mahrs. No Rothaus. No Alpirsbacher.

Alright, just had to complain for a moment. Anyway, glad you got to drink your delicious, fresh doppelbock. (goes back to grumbling and muttering to self.)

I get all of the beers you listed that you don't get but I rarely buy them due to the age of the beers (or lack of bottle dating) on my retailers shelves.

    Oh well!?!:flushed:

    Cheers!

But at least you have the option of considering buying them:slight_smile: Especially if you happen across some freshies.

Speaking of, I did see a fresh-ish shipment of Schneider stuff come in to my local recently, so I think I'll be grabbing some Aventinus and a couple weizens later today.

Which is getting increasingly rare but you are correct: when I can find fresh German brewed beer I do buy it. Having stated that the majority of my German style packaged beer purchases are US craft brewed beers (e.g., Stoudts, Troegs, Victory, Sly Fox, ...).

The majority of the German brewed beers I drink are on draft at local beer bars; my local beer bars are able to obtain fresh kegs.

    Cheers!

Maybe you missed the part about driving 40 miles out of my way to get this? :astonished:

Yeah, distribution of anything around here has hit a new low, never mind German imports. I was talking with the beer guy at one of the bigger retailers who was telling me distributor horror stories. I usually take them with a grain of salt because there are always 2 sides to a story, but just based on what I see (or don't see) at retailers I have to believe some of it.
