12 Days of XMAS BIF

Both beers are fresh, though the Pig is 5 days more fresh. Previously I had said I preferred BP over Pliny from memory but today, blind I actually liked the Pliny better. It had better taste and the Pig just seemed a little watered down comparatively. Thanks again fellas for the chance to do this.

When doing a taste test, putting two similar things against each other like that, I 100% agree and have done it myself a few times (though never with those two).

When doing a vertical/horizontal it's counter to the point... With a horizontal (be it base/barrel or various adjuncts) blind tasting is useless since it's easy to tell them apart. With a vertical, the entire point is to taste a beer as it ages to see how it changes over time, blind tasting would defeat that purpose as well.

 

Two boxes landed from @kgncfl today - swag and the 12 days! First the swag...

Hoof Hearted - Roller Blabe. New tick, heard great things about this one and had others from HH which I enjoyed. This one did not disappoint!
Perrin - Lil' Griz. BA session brow - sounds very interesting, and a new brewery tick as well!
Saugatuck - Holly's Lust.
Saugatuck - Brian's Remorse. Two new beers from a new to me brewery. Styles right up my alley!
Jackie O's - BB Oil. Only "had" from these awesome bottles. Had it, and loved it!
Jackie O's - Cognac DA. WANT.
Jackie O's - Oro Negro. DOUBLE WANT.
Lineage Brewing Titty. Love the logo, etched glass, style. To be used regularly!
Hopped Corn - Carmel Corn Puffs. Really considering eating these with a spoon, in a bowl with some Heady poured over them.

Keith killed it with these extras, and I can't wait to see what he's got in store for the 12-days!

3 days of multiple small bottles. 1 set to mix (hmm, interesting), 1 set to do a side by side, and 1 set which isn't marked very clearly (Day 9). Here's to hoping Santa brings @kgncfl a new sharpie!

I stopped reading this thread a week or two ago, sad that I didn't join in the festivities. Then, a "little" box fell on my porch today, so I went back and skimmed a few (read MANY) pages and came across this post...

Since it looks like I will be joining the fine ranks of stellar BAs in this thread, I should probably offer a (no-so) little backstory. Sorry for the lengthy post...

Several weeks ago @whyteboy003 might have mentioned that he really enjoyed a fairly available local beer when he was visiting the great city of Chicago, and that he would enjoy the opportunity to try it again. So, being a #L4L, I took it upon myself to send him a few more bottles so that he could spread a little Chicago love around the great state of FL--a gesture that is commonplace in the group.

Of course, the normal, "your porch is not safe," "you deserve it," "I'll get revenge," "nah, send it to someone else" conversation ensued, but I failed to pay attention to one particular question/comment.

I think that it went something like this:

@whyteboy003--"Hey, by the way, did you get into the 12DOX--it's gonna be pretty crazy over there."
me-- "I thought about it for a while, but the wife has been on me for sending/receiving too many boxes recently, so I figured I'd lay low for a bit."
@whyteboy003--"Too bad. You really should get involved..."

The use of future tense (should get involved) threw me for a moment--the targets were sent out a few days prior--but I attributed the slip up to Matt's inclination for the Packers, or too much beer, or something else along those lines, and I went about my day.

Then I got two UPS notifications...

They originated in FL...

They were for a 23 pound box and a 31 pound box...

...oh FUK...



Well, the "23 pound" box arrived today.



I raced home to try to bring it inside before the wife got home from work...


...she pulled in right behind me...


...when she saw me struggling with the box, she rushed over to help me bring it in...


..."FUK, this weighs like 40 pounds. Is this more damn beer..." were the words that came out of her mouth.


I thought my days were short, but then I showed her this.





...and explained to her the story above and what the 12DOX was...


...And then she said, "That's pretty cool. I guess your beer-boyfriends are okay."


...and then she said, "does this mean that you have to send out another FUKin box?"...


I just smiled.
(and shuddered thinking that a "31 pound" box is scheduled to land tomorrow. She doesn't work tomorrow. I'm still trying to figure out how to explain that one...)

Seriously, Matt, I don't think that there are many times I have felt so humbled. This was an absolutely unexpected, totally classy, incredibly selfless gesture on your part. I hemmed and hawed about getting into the 12DOX just long enough that I missed the deadline. Even if the box is full of high-life, Bud Light, and Corona (somehow I have a feeling it is not...), making the effort to include me means more than anything that you might have included in the box.
