To be fair, they had a bottle limit of 12 for Christmas morning the week before without any problems.

I just dont think they expected the crowds to be as big.

Opening earlier than 2 might also have helped, as the later start allowed the line to swell before the registers started ringing and less people would have been waiting as long as they did just to be shut out.

I think that just too many people got the false impression they would get beer.

I didnt go because i had prior obligations all day and i am so glad i didnt. I am hoping i get some of the limited distro this week, but not counting on it at all.

It was odd that they would increase the limit all the way from 2 to 6. Why not up it to like 4? Neither me nor any of the other people I was with got the full allotment, but I'm sure many people did. A slightly lower limit could've meant that a whole lot more folks got bottles. Definitely sucks when someone misses out on a beer that still goes into distro.

Was my first Hardywood release, but I thought they handled it about as well as they could have for how many people were there. The line moved really fast I thought. That said, I still don't understand why they wait until 2:00 to start sales.

Then people bitch they didn't get as many bottles as they wanted and it wasn't worth the effort for 1-2 bottles. The only time most everyone is pleased with releases are when the brewery gets stuck with bottles they hadn't planned on storing. Even then you've got belly aching that the beer won't trade for as much as it should because it didn't sell out on release day.

I personally love the brown paper ticket presales, but then you've got people bitching the website sucks and so on ...... you can't win!

At the end of the day, I think people were surprised that Hardywood was capable of running a poorly executed release.

Yeah, I understand their reasoning of increasing allotments earlier in the week, but once they saw how the morning was going, standing firm and not changing limits in stride was not indicative of a mature organization, or one that seems to have any appreciation of their base.

I just looked in my box though and they definitely gave me one less Kentucky Morning than I said I wanted, replacing it with a regular Christmas Morning.

I'm not going to worry about it too much all things considered, but that is pretty sheisty and hard to believe it was accidental based on how many people are saying it.

that was by far the longest line I've seen at Hardywood. no way they could have forseen that.

rule #1 of bottle releases: unless you state clearly from the beginning that limits will not be established till day of YOU NEVER LOWER BOTTLE LIMITS ON RELEASE DAY. if you think is a shit show, them lowering the limits is global thermo-nuclear war.

I personally see the limits being upped to 6/per as kind of a holiday gift to their fans. after a year of a bunch of onesy/twoosy releases, BAM, a beer everyone had been asking for is here at 6, have at it!

Bummed I didn't get any KY, but I showed up at 4 so it's on me. I wasn't willing to sit in the cold all day. You would think just based on Facebook event interest page they would have had a better idea of limits but hey, it's up to them.

I think the worst thing about Hardywood releases is that they never say how many bottles are available beforehand, leaving people to speculate on availability based on bottle limits and other rumors. If they had said "there will be XXXX bottles of Kentucky Christmas Morning and XXXX of Apple Brandy GBS available for purchase at the release" then they would be totally blameless for what happened yesterday.

If I got mine and knew others were unhappy about the way things went I would mind my own business and enjoy my beers. Instead you come here to pat yourself on the back about how smart you were to show up early. I got your point on your first couple of posts.

The first part of what you said is what bothers me the most about limited releases. Getting in line at 8 am for a 2pm beer release just can't become the new normal. I've been to a few Hardywood releases and got there an hour or so early, only to stand in line for 4 hours to actually get to one of the two guys selling beer. There needs to be a better system for releasing this stuff.

Also, you can blame it a little on the brewery. 6 per type per person sends a clear message that there is plenty to go around.

Not patting myself on the back at all just stating the obvious. It's a limited release of a variant to a beer that was already a limited release. All the information was put out beforehand.

Because real adults show up three hours early for a beer release and wait in cold windy weather hoping for six beers.

Good thing you're here to enlighten us with your wisdom on maturity and expert hindsight on how to get your proper allotment at a botched Hardwood release, otherwise we wouldn't have had the perspective of a know-it-all who actually doesn't know how strongly their positive outcome bias is shaping their opinion.

When you reach BA Mexican Cake levels of butt hurt about a release, you know you've really made it as a brewery.
