All I can think about while drinking the generic local lager is.... man this would be twice as awesome with a Tree House or an Other Half session IPA in hand.

    First world problems, indeed.

Not the best place for beer. But the rum is a different matter

Spent 4 days on a cruise ship drinking nothing but Bass, Fosters and other similar blah beers. Got off the boat in Nassau. Walking through the crowd, bought a bottle of Kalik from a kid for $4.00. Drank it out of the bottle right on the street. Man, it was tasty. Think the time and place had a lot to do with it, but it really hit the spot.

Bring beer with you. When I go to Cabo I bring beer with me in my suitcase.

Yea, definitely hit the rum. Most of the beer in the Caribbean isn't very good. I drank a lot of Red Stripe while in Jamaica but got tired of it about mid-week.

I find these vacations a great time to revisit classics like Boston Lager and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale if available.

Failing that, much like Guinness magically tastes better from the source in Ireland, Corona magically tastes better on a cruise ship. I have no qualms pounding Corona or Dos Equis when on vacation.

I don't always drink adjunct lagers, but when I'm in the Caribbean, I prefer...well, you get the point.

There's been a bunch of Caribbean beer threads - drink the Guinness FES, Strong Back stout or whatever local lager that's nice on a hot day. and the rum too. I couldn't imagine only wanting to drink DIPAs all the time wherever I am. Usually the local food goes better with the local beer too. Vacation in Vermont or San Diego if you need DIPAs all around.

I guess I'm weird because when I was in Cancun I actually loved drinking the local beers that I can't get here like Tecate Light and Sol Limon y Sal. But then again, I like ALL beer, not just craft.

Reminds me of a funny story...my brother in law and I did the Harley ride thing in it think Freeport. Got back with plenty of time before we needed to leave. Found the nearest the cantina with a couple Cubans. Time got away, so we figured we would get back to cruise ship, totally plastered by the way. As we were approaching the ship, with no care in the world, the wife was waiving at us to hurry like Jason Voorhis was chasing us, we were not impressed. As soon as we re boarded, they pulled everything up and we were leaving. Apparently we nearly became Freeport residents for a while. After the wife screamed at us for almost being left, we were still not impressed and started paying $10 for Boddingon's at the casino. Awesome times!

I know that game! Except for me it was Ketchikan, AK, and drinking Alaskan Amber's in the casino after. Sometimes I feel like it wouldn't have been the worst thing to be left in AK, amazing place.
