The winter exclusives are the worst selling of BBC's portfolio. The only time they sell sufficiently is before the holidays. Of course, BBC knows better than to actually market them as holiday beers, because if they did the leftover stock really wouldn't move come January 1st. Hence, "Winter Classics".

Sounds like a shit sandwich. Does Sam Adams pay people to start these stupid threads <rhetorical question>?

Their Dunkelweizen is one of the very few wheat beers I like from Sam Adams. If they'd increase the body (it's a pretty thin beer) it would be a really great Dunkelweizen.

@beerwolf what don't you like about this particular variety pack?

I'm not saying you have to like it. But the Scotch Ale was voted on by the fans, and the Session Ale is brand new. Also, the Noble Pils was one of their most popular spring seasonals before it went year-round and they retired it.

I can understand the dislike towards putting their flagship in there, as this seems to be a popular opinion. And I'm no fan of Cold Snap myself, many seem to share this opinion as well. I think the Kolsch can be hit or miss for some. I'm a bit perplexed though with a complete disdain for it, seeing as one of the beers was voted on and the other is brand new.

Sorry for the harshness, but after weeks of seeing a thread on the homepage discussing the merits (?!) of Rebel Rouser IPA and now this - I just snapped! I'm sorry if some of you live in places where Sam Adams is the best "craft" beer available, but with the almost infinite amount of superior beer out there it's disappointing to see their mediocre product taking up web space <end rant>.

I have plenty of great beer where I live. Just so happens that I like Sam Adams and think they're great as well for what they go for.

I've never been one to believe that a beer has to be the best beer to be enjoyable or a worthwhile purchase. I also find the idea that a Sam Adams product is only worth buying if there are no "superior" beers around to be silly as well as the notion that their entire product line is mediocre. Opinions and palates vary but that kind of blanket dismissal is absurd.

Hear! Hear! They're a solid brewery making solid beers. Yes, Boston Lager shows up in every variety pack (except the Hopology), but I can understand why they do. Remember the first time you had it in the vast BMC wasteland? It let your taste buds know that beer could be better. Granted, they may not "knock" every style they make "out of the park" , but you at least know it will be consistently good and easy to find. Tasty ways to wash any kind of "sandwich" down.
I like the way it seems they've listened to us and gone with the 2/2/2/2/2/2 format in their packs. Goldilocks variety - just right. They are also bring back scotch ale. I missed out on Cold Snap, so I am looking forward to trying this one. It took a little while for the Winter Packs to show up; I think we had Fall Packs until after Thanksgiving. So I'm thinking I've got a few more weeks until the Spring Pack shows up. As I said earlier, I'm looking forward to this one.

I saw one of these at Wal Mart today, I started to get it but I held off. I bought a ton of beer over the holidays and I figure I will grab this in the next few weeks once I work down some of my stock.

I saw this but had just picked up another Winter Classics pack, so I'll be sure to grab this next time. Really happy they are continuing the six different beers per 12 pack. Winter, Hopology, and now this; seems like SA has realized that the 6x2 setup is more favorable than the 4x3.

Also, as a heads up, it seems like they will be doing another variety pack before the summer one. My guess is it will be a lager pack with Ella Blanc IPL, Double Bock, Noble Pils, Double Pilsner, Double Black, and another one. As seen here: http://mybeerbuzz.blogspot.com/2015/11/samuel-adams-noble-pils-double-pilsner.html and http://mybeerbuzz.blogspot.com/2015/11/samuel-adams-ella-blanc-ipl-hitting.html

Even more interesting though, is it seems like they have been registering their Summer Variety pack of beers already. Again, guessing here, but it will probably have BL, Summer, Porch Rocker, Heaven or Helles (http://mybeerbuzz.blogspot.com/2015/12/samuel-adams-heaven-or-helles-hitting.html), Got to Gose (http://mybeerbuzz.blogspot.com/2015/12/samuel-adams-got-to-gose-wcucumbers.html), and a Rebel entry (Grapefruit?). The stand out for me here is the Gose, since it's a style you don't see that often, especially on the cheap. Here's hoping it's good!

I've been watching this one closely and if it does end up coming out I hope it is more widely available than the Adventures in Lager pack was, I searched high and low for that pack and kept striking out.

I disagree. I think that the SA offerings are for the most part very solid exactly the way they are and I certainly don't consider them 'thin versions of a a particular style' .
The strong point of their beers is that they prove very nicely that excellent craft beer doesn't always have to be over-the-top and overdone caricatures of traditional 'styles' that have become all too common. SA products provide a very nice contrast to the glorified amateur homebrew being turned out by far too many of the craft beer newbies coming onto the scene.
Many will disagree with my assessment. And I'm cool with that...:grinning:

I'm with you there- plus these all look to be enjoyable beers (except for one, which is fine by me if the Scotch ale makes up for it.) Plus- Noble Pils!!!

I just got the email today from Sam Adams, so I guess I should start looking.

Another +1 for Alpine Spring. Underrated IMO. I would like to get the Scotch not sure I want the whole 12 pack though.

Damn, I guess the sayin goes: "haters are gonna hate".

Anyhow, what the hell is taking Sam Adams so long to get the Nitro COFFEE Can series released? PLEASE no more variety packs until this happens

Cold snap aside, this looks great. I voted for Scotch Ale as well and haven't had in in years. It was my first introduction to the style (they brought it to the Highland Games at Loon Mountain every year).
